I (Spencer) attended the Central Varsity Jamboree tonight (5/30) and was able to watch some games.

[player_tooltip player_id='1150901' first='John' last='Mattingly'] Central

John put on a scoring masterpiece in his game against Centennial tonight. He was simply unguardable, finishing this game with 39 points. He was playing at a methodical pace all night. John scored from all three levels. Late in the second half, he hit two stepback threes on back-to-back possessions. John was scoring proficiently around the rim and in the mid-range. He did a fantastic job getting to the foul line and converting from there. He also got his teammates involved, including his younger brother, Grant. John has some of the best vision in the entire AIA. He finished the game with six assists and six rebounds. Central ended up winning this game by one point off a [player_tooltip player_id='1150901' first='John' last='Mattingly'] game winner!

[player_tooltip player_id='1873639' first='Grant' last='Mattingly'] Central

Grant put on an all-around display in their game against Centennial. As an underclassman, Grant is one of the leaders on this team. As one of their primary ball handlers, he possesses great court vision and remains unfazed by ball pressure. He can push ahead well and will throw full-court passes for easy buckets. Something that impressed me in the game today was Grant's ability to be a knockdown shooter; he was very consistent and finished with four threes on the night. Grant was still able to attack down low and finish at the rim. He ended the game with 18 points. He is one of the bigger bodies on this Central team, so he crashed the glass hard, finishing the game with six rebounds. Central won this game by a single point.

[player_tooltip player_id='1780586' first='Romell' last='Shields'] Centennial

Romell showcased his offensive skills in tonight's game against Central. He was doing a great job of keeping Centennial in the game. He did a good job pacing the scoring for them whenever it felt like Central was going to pull ahead. He utilizes his strong frame effectively and was able to create space in the paint to score and secure rebounds. Romell was also active on the defensive side of the ball, getting steals which led to some easy layups. He also could not miss from outside the arc; he had five threes this game. His form is textbook, and the results prove that. Centennial lost a heart breaker, but he was a bright spot for this talented team.

[player_tooltip player_id='2146268' first='Brock' last='Knee'] Arcadia

In the second game of the day for Arcadia, Brock got more comfortable and led his team to a victory. Brock is one of the best shooters in his class, but he is starting to get more confident attacking other areas of the floor off the dribble. In this game, where he scored 18 points, he made only one three-pointer; but he has a new weapon in his game, as he has been working hard on it. Brock was able to use his tall frame to shoot over defenders in the mid-range area. He was also attacking downhill and getting to the rim with ease. Brock was rebounding well for a guard, helping lead Arcadia to a win against Mica Mountain.

[player_tooltip player_id='1726571' first='Rinor' last='Gerbiqi'] North Canyon

He was a complete game changer for North Canyon tonight. Rinor is a bucket getter and can find a good look every time he gets it. He had 20 points in this one, whether it was off three-pointers or tough drives to the rim, he was getting it done. If he matches his scoring ability with a little more urgency, he will be hard to stop. North Canyon dropped a tough one against Cesar Chavez.
