Recruiting Report: Thomas Hickman (2018)
Thomas Hickman (2018), a 6’2” lead guard from Westerville Central who thrives in the open floor, is keeping an open-mind in his recruitment process, which is important considering his range of recruiters.
Hickman listed off Ohio Dominican, Cedarville, Rio Grande, Marietta, Baldwin Wallace, Heidelberg, and Anderson as schools showing interest.
But Hickman, averaging 19 points per game according to 270 Hoops, may not land at any of these schools if the right offer doesn’t come in.
“I’m thinking about either if I want to go to college or I want to go to a prep school. I’ll probably make my decision after the season, to see where I stand with offers and interest,” Hickman said.
Specifically, Hickman said he would explore personal connections with Fork Union or Hargrave Military Academy, both located in Virginia. Or, really, any prep school for that matter.
“One of the players on the team, Dave Dickerson, he said that his dad could get me into any prep school.”
On the other hand, Cedarville, Marietta, and Baldwin Wallace particularly, all have a chance at landing Hickman following his high school graduation in the spring. He’s already taken a visit to Cedarville, which he enjoyed. Additionally, Hickman wants to check out the pair of in-state Division III programs.
“I really would go to Marietta or Baldwin Wallace, but that’s the two schools that I would go to that would be D-III,” Hickman said.
At levels other than Division III, Hickman is surely open to other programs entering the picture. His driving ability and overall maturity looked a step better last time we saw him, which was two weeks ago against Olentangy. Hickman is a gamer, who once against put a close game on ice in the second half by being aggressive.
“Last year I had to get guys into a groove of what varsity was like, because some of them it was their first time playing varsity. But this year, [my role is] to be more aggressive and set my teammates up for success,” Hickman said.
Whatever they’re doing is working, as the Warhawks are 6-1 going into their game at Olentangy Liberty on Friday night.
