Saturday, February 1st I attended the 2A match-up of #1 in 2A Phoenix Country Day traveling over 30 mins to take on #15 in 2A Horizon Honors.

From the jump PCD took a 15 point lead and coasted with team defense the rest of the way. They are one of the top 2A teams and you see why with a 51-29 win.

Here were the standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='1490887' first='Blake' last='Sosnowitz'] Phoenix Country Day

A pure point guard is a little undersized but he is one of the best passers in 2A. He can thread the needle with advanced court vision and he can throw players open. He will score with deep range from beyond the arc and change speeds to get downhill.

[player_tooltip player_id='2337138' first='Jadd' last='Agha'] Phoenix Country Day

A long and lean wing forward with great size. He keeps growing and is pushing over six-foot eight. He can catch and shoot from the three with deep range and will hit the side step three. He will dribble dive and kick it to a teammate unselfishly and will collect steals and rebounds well in his area.

[player_tooltip player_id='1490238' first='JD' last='Jones'] Phoenix Country Day

A powerfully built wing forward will defend multiple positions. He will score with dunks, rip thru and/or will drive baseline and score in traffic. He rebounds well in his area using his frame and will block shots. He will throw passes up the court and scored 15+ points

[player_tooltip player_id='1986855' first='Deven' last='Chhabra'] Phoenix Country Day

A long wing forward can score it multiple ways. He will hit the catch three, as he knocked down three, step thru with longer strides to the cup, moves off the ball and cuts when he should plus pull-up from mid. He will also block shots in his area. He scored 15+ points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2442128' first='Julian' last='Owens'] Phoenix Country Day

A newcomer for me is the little brother of D1 commit Olivia Owens, who is one of the top guards in the AIA. Julian is a long and lean wing forward who moves well from end to end. He has a nice burst to the basket with very long strides and is just scratching the surface. He will be given a lot more PT next year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2759091' first='Calvin' last='McCrory'] Horizon Honors

A combo lead guard who can play on or off the ball. He has deep three point range and will create his own offense with his tighter handle to get his own shot off. He has a good feel to make a play and is a plus passer. The lefty can change speeds and get downhill.

[player_tooltip player_id='2759092' first='Richie' last='Hewitt V'] Horizon Honors

A freshman wing forward who understands the game. He moves well defensively on the perimeter and will rebound and block shots. The lefty can hit the three and euro down the lane to score. He sees the court well and plays a cerebral game.

[player_tooltip player_id='2759093' first='Sean' last='Segal'] Horizon Honors

An undersized power forward is a strong rebounder who will carve out space. He uses his wider body to back his man down to score. What stood out was his passing skills like a point forward and he honestly was one of the best passing forwards I have seen in 2A.

[player_tooltip player_id='2759094' first='Max' last='Gerelick'] Horizon Honors

A wing forward is a tough cover. He is one of their leading scorers for the season. He will score with dribble drives in traffic with tough takes and will score with cuts off the ball plus he can score on put backs getting on the glass.
