If the state of Louisiana is rich in one area, it is at the point guard. No matter what classification is playing on a given day, there will be a high level point guard playing. So far this season, there have been some very good point guard play in the gyms I have stepped in. These preps have scored and defended with the best of them. In this Prep Hoops exclusive, we will look at some point guards who have impressed this season.

The Peabody point had himself a game against Evangel in Shreveport. Mitchell is the unquestioned leader of this team and he played as such on this night. His 22 points led the team. He was accurate from deep and made meaningful threes that kept Evangel at arm's length. His defense created turnovers and forced bad shots by the Eagles. Mitchell's instincts also saved possessions that helped towards the victory. His play was stellar on both ends.

Scott showed the Byrd Yellow Jackets why he is an all-state player last week at the Hive. Scott scored 29 points and played impressively on both ends of the floor. He was a finisher in transition and also created transition situations with his defense. Scott also showed his point guard skills by getting Pleasant Hill into sets and helping the team execute. Scott is a point guard in the purest sense and showed it.

The Mansfield Wolverines have a point guard that can change a game with his defensive play. O'Neal had himself a game against Stanley by playing outstanding pressure defense. He forced turnovers by forcing Stanley ballhandlers to go where he pushed them. O'Neal also used his quickness to create steals when guarding man-to-man. His 17 points led Mansfield in their overtime win over Stanley and it was partially due to his defense.

Loftin is as good as they come at the point guard. He is a highly skilled point who uses his IQ and ballhandling to manipulate things to his advantage. Loftin scored 24 points against Mansfield in a variety of ways. He used up fakes to catch defenders off balance for fouls. Nolan has good body control and wove his way through the defense to finish layups and short jumpers. He was very difficult to stop because of the number of tricks in his bag. Loftin will cause teams fits going forward for the rest of the season because of his expansive game.

French is a point guard who knows how to manipulate the defense to get what he wants. He has a very good handle and knows how to use it to get to spots for his jumper. French also creates better passing lanes for himself to get the ball to teammates with the dribble. He was the leading scorer in their win over Southwood with 17 doing everything described. French is the leader of a BTW team who should be a force in their classification.
