Expert Analysis
Paul Hernandez | Prep Hoops Scout
Kochnev is a physical and skilled player that can score in the paint, as well as space the floor from the perimeter, sees the floor well, and has a number of ways to score the ball. The 6-foot-7 forward has good interior footwork with use of the pivot, seals off his defender to with good hands to receive entry passes, gets into his defenders body to create contact, with the use of the spin-move or reverse pivot to evade his opponent and get open for shots within 15-feet, and is effective with the face-up mid-post jumper. Kochnev is tough to defend in the on-ball screen action, as he can hit shots from the perimeter at a high clip, or score at the basket with good timing on the roll, and the strength to score through contact at the basket. Kochnev moves well off the ball to get open for looks off the catch, is accurate with the 3-ball from the top of the key, and has good court vision and precision on passes from the top of the key or out of the post. Kochnev finished with 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks.

Kochnev is as tough as it gets. A strong, physical player in the paint. Plays extremely well off both feet and bullies his opponents. Knows how to use the glass to knock down tough shots. Plays with a very high motor. A gifted rebounder and quick to score the putback buckets. Can shoot the three very well. Played very well against a tough Crean Lutheran team putting up 30 points and 15 rebounds against the CL bigs both of whom were 6’7 and 6’8. Kochnev picked up an offer from Northern Arizona after the performance. His list of schools will be growing here pretty quickly.
