Preseason Elite Camp Standouts

High school teams and players are preparing for the upcoming 2024-2025 season. Recently, we had the opportunity to scout an Elite prospect Camp, featuring players on the high school and prep school level. A few of the attendees have received offers, but are still in search for a place to call home at the next level. Now, let's take a look at the Konya Sports elite camp standouts, who should be on your radar for the entire season.    Aaron Calderon performed well all day at camp. His ability to knock down shots in drills, translated into 5-on-5 play. While playing off the ball, Calderon was constantly moving and this encouraged his teammates to follow suit. Because of this movement, Calderon caught the ball in his spot several times and scored. But, Calderon also snatched a couple of offensive rebounds away from large bigs, simply by being in the right spot at the right time. One of the younger players at the camp Calderon made sure to contribute on both ends of the floor.     Jimmy Kelly is long and athletic with a deadly jumper. At the Konya Sports elite camp, Kelly showed why a defender needs to be stapled to him at all times. Whether running off a screen or off the dribble, Kelly was able to knock down shots. And as a ball handler, Kelly showed he can take his defender off the dribble and get to the goal.     <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/10/konyasports1-crop-1072x704-1728786236.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/10/konyasports1-crop-1072x704-1728786236.jpg?w=800" alt="One of the camp standouts, Jimmy Kelly, during dribbling drill" class="wp-image-2621578" /></a></figure>    Aaron Grant is strong with nice handles and vision that help make him a solid point guard. At the Konya Sports elite camp, Grant was very vocal on both ends of the floor. We especially liked how Grant controlled the tempo with the ball in his hands. Plus, Grant's strength makes him difficult to keep out of the lane whenever he decides.     [player_tooltip player_id='2759425' first='Rhaki' last='Lum'] is a guard that can really shoot the basketball from all over the floor. But, when his shot wasn't falling Lum turned up his intensity on the defensive end to create turnovers. In one game, Lum shouldered the responsibility of facilitating, scoring, and guarding the best player. And when his shot was falling, Lum looked unstoppable. Making him one of the clear standouts at the camp.     Shemar Sookdar is a point guard with a lightning quick handle and speed, that make it difficult to stay in front of him. Defenders have to respect Sookdar's ability to knock down the long ball. But with the rock in hands, Sookdar was rarely looking for his own shot. Instead, Sookdar facilitated superbly finding his teammates in the right spots. On defense, Sookdar showed the ability to neutralize the opposing ball handler. Although, Sookdar isn't the tallest guard, his physical strength makes up for it. And his game is a classic display of heart over height.     Channer Duke has decided to play a Prep School year at NY Military Academy. Once the 5-on-5 play started, Duke was a force on both ends supplying what was necessary for his team at any given time. When the opposing team had a dynamic guard, Duke was able to quell that with quick feet and high IQ. When it was time to get the big man involved on offense, Duke was able to use the pick-and-roll or pick-and-pop to perfection. But as a guard you need to be able to find the hot hand, and Duke did just that. His overall game and attitude made Duke one of the Konya Sports camp standouts.     Antonis Kalvros terrorized everyone who attempted to guard him all camp. Kalvros has the ball on a string, and went where he wanted when he wanted with the ball. As a shooter, Kalvros has knockdown potential and this kept defenders on their toes all day. But, Kalvros never settled or chased any specific shot. However, Kalvros was great at taking what the defense gave and finding his teammates when defenders focused on him. And on defense Kalvros played with just as much IQ. Either helping when needed, or creating steals with pressure.
