About Jalen

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I’m a well-rounded player who shines on both sides of the court. On offense, I can score from almost anywhere—whether it’s hitting three-pointers, driving to the hoop, or making clever passes to set up my teammates. On defense, I can guard different positions, using my speed and understanding of the game to break up plays and force turnovers. My skill to adjust to different roles and help the team

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

My main priorities are academics and basketball because they challenge me to become the best I can be in unique ways. In school, I aim to learn and develop continuously, while basketball ignites my competitive nature and teaches me the importance of teamwork. I possess a strong sense of grit and determination to excel in both fields, regardless of the obstacles I encounter.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

No, but I hope to get involved in some charity work. I also donate clothes to the homeless when away from sports.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’ve developed community skills volunteering at elementary schools and I feel i’ve strongly developed leader ships skills on the court. My display of teamwork is illustrated when on the court it’s not just you out there, it’s a team sport and effort.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My most significant challenge was balancing academics and sports. Once I found that balance, the grind got addictive. I strive to be just as smart as I am skillful on the basketball court.

What type of college are you looking for?

The colleges I am looking for are one that will help me grow and mature and establish strong relationships, academics and basketball skills.

Smith, a forward out of Canton High School in Massachusetts, was a difference maker for MCIB during afternoon action on Saturday. The 6’3″ forward has good positional size, moves well laterally, and does a nice job of playing within himself on the offensive end of the floor. He sets solid screens, rolls hard to the rim, and finishes with either hand around the basket. He even showed the ability to attack the rim as a straight line driver off of a few bounces. Defensively, he uses his frame to his advantage as a rebounder and has the ability to defend on the perimeter in short stretches with good lateral mobility.
