All Freshman Showcase Team

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Prep Hoops Missouri held its annual Freshman Showcase on Sunday at Chaminade College Prep in St. Louis. There were many talented players on hand at the event from three different states. Here is a look at six players who stood out as members of the All Showcase Team.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Elijah Poniewaz (Chaminade): The 5'10" point guard was the top prospect in the camp. He's a thick-bodied southpaw who plays a very mature game that belies his young age. He could use his physical strength to back down defenders into the post to get a bucket inside. He's a three-level scorer who was easing his way into the lane or knocking down perimeter shots. He was also creating buckets for his teammates with his passing skills and court vision.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bryce Millien (CBC): A 5'10" combo guard who was excellent in both the 3-on-3 and the 5-on-5 scrimmage games. He is an athletic guard with a tremendous burst to get to the basket and score in traffic. If he wasn't getting downhill on the dribble, he could also pull up and hit the mid-range jumper off the ball screen. In the full court 5-on-5 setting, he was really excelling in the open court with coast to coast dashes and dynamic finishes in the transition game.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2571615' first='Jamal' last='McNeal'] (Parkway West): A 6'3" wing guard who was one of the big revelations of the came with his athleticism and stellar offensive skill set. He has an impressive offensive bag where he was creating off the dribble and knocking down mid-range jumpers with good elevation on his shots. He had some very impressive finishes in the lane where he exhibited very good body control as he could score over or through defenders. In the full-court games, he was calmly pulling up and hitting 3-pointers off the bounce.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bryce Bohnhoff (Dieterich, IL): A 6'2" wing player from Illinois who displayed a versatile offensive skill set throughout the day. He was just as effective inside and he was on the perimeter. He was drawing out bigger defenders with his ability to hit catch and shoot 3-pointers. He would then shot-fake them and get to the basket on the drive. He has a very nice spin move to evade traffic to get to the rim. He made effective use of the jab step to set up his defenders. He could also score in the post and he got his share of offensive rebounds and putbacks.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2460854' first='Amar'e' last='Hawkins'] (Moberly): A 6'1" guard from Mid-Missouri who played a very smooth and elegant game. The young lefty is a three-level scorer who was beating defenders on the straight line drive or shake them with an escape move to set up his perimeter jumper. He scored on some impressive slashing moves into the lane and he was knocking down open 3-pointers. He used the glass very effectively on his short runners. He was also a very willing and good passer who was dropping one-handed pinpoint dimes off the dribble.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>John Lockridge (Paducah, KY): A 5'11" offensive weapon who looked every bit the part of a smooth and skilled shooting guard. He was as good a 3-point shooter off the catch as I watched in the came. He had a smooth released on his high-arching jumper that hit the bottom of the net. He was also creating off the dribble to hit the step-back jumper from distance and he was attacking the close outs to hit one-dribble pull up jumpers with ease. What impressed me even more was how unselfish he was as a passer. He was always keeping his head up and looking for open teammates and he dropped some impressive dimes.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
