Prep Hoops Missouri takes a look at some of the top standout performers from Saturday's first day of the Prep Hoops Show Me Showdown in Chesterfield.

[player_tooltip player_id='2546174' first='Trisiah' last='Edwards'] ([program_tooltip program_id='2077051' first='Team' last='Ramey'] 17U): A 5'10" 2025 point guard from Ladue who was the consummate floor general in his team's victory over Hardwood Elite in the game I watched. He is an excellent distributor who was very good at finding his teammates in the spots where they could operate comfortably. He run the fast break expertly as he found teammates for layups and open 3-pointers. He recognized switching defenses immediately and got his team organized. When he needed to score, he could use his quickness and burst to get into the lane for a runner or short jumper.

******

[player_tooltip player_id='2427989' first='Jack' last='Edgerton'] ([program_tooltip program_id='2075283' first='Arsenal' last='Hoops'] 17U Black): A 6'3" 2025 guard from Ladue had an impressive day in leading his team to a pair of victories. He is a good athlete who was getting buckets at all three levels. He was hitting 3-pointers off the catch or he would face up his opponent and back him up with a jab step, then jump up and hit the triple. He had a nice spin move in the lane and he exhibited good body control when he drove to the basket and scored in traffic. He was able to score very well without a lot of extra and wasted motion.

******

[player_tooltip player_id='2536477' first='Gary' last='Johnson'] (Illinois Orange 16U): The 6'3" 2026 wing from St. Mary's was one of the most dynamic athletes that I watched during the day. The young lefty is an effective slasher who was swooping to the rim for layups and slam dunks as well as numerous offensive rebounds. He was difficult to keep off the offensive boards because he was getting a running start from the perimeter. He handles the ball well and he was always looking to attack and keep pressure on the defense. His motor was also running on the defensive end as he played the top of his team's full court press.

*******

[player_tooltip player_id='1598822' first='Brady' last='Thompson'] (Mavericks Elite 16U): A 6'4" 2026 forward from Kingston who plays a strong and physical game around the basket that was very effective. He uses his big body to get good positioning in the paint and he scored with a soft touch. He doesn't mind the physical contact as he made numerous trips to the free throw line. He also stepped out and knocked down the 3-pointer from the top of the key. He displayed some nice passing skills from the high post area as he hit cutting teammates in stride for easy layups.

******

[player_tooltip player_id='2383864' first='Braeden' last='Walton'] (SEMO Select 15U): An impressive 6'1" 2027 guard from small school Scott City in the Southeast part of the state. This was my first time seeing this youngster play and he was dealing on offense with an impressive array of slashing drives and spin moves into the lane for buckets. He was very good at going to the reverse on his layups and using his body as a shield to ward off potential shot blockers on the drive. His 3-point shot was also working in the game that I watched him.

******

Nate Heskett (Mavericks Elite 17U): A 6'8" 2025 forward from Heritage Christian Classical School who had a big game in the Mavericks victory over the Illinois Bears. He played with a lot of activity as he caught everyone's attention with a big tip-dunk early in the game. He also slammed one home after an impressive rim-run. He has some smooth moves in the post and he has a nice shooting touch from 15 to 17 feet. I remember watching him at the Prep Hoops 250 Expo in September and he looks to have improved his game over the course of several months.

******

[player_tooltip player_id='1881003' first='Preston' last='Brewer'] (Tri State Select): The 6'6" 2025 forward from Canton is a versatile and skilled player in the post and on the perimeter. I was very impressed with the toughness that he displayed as he had to battle a team that had three players that were his size or taller. He has a nice mix of moves in the low post with good footwork and finesse. He can score on jump hooks for turnaround jumpers in the lane. He can also operate as a secondary ball handler and he could step out and hit the 3-pointer off the pick and pop. He could also pass out of the post or hit the cutting teammate from the perimeter.

*******

[player_tooltip player_id='2119128' first='Greg' last='Robinson'] (Hardwood Elite 17U): A 6'7" forward from Hillsboro who is kind of a hidden gem in Jefferson County. He has good size and athleticism and he appears to be getting stronger physically over the course of the year. He has a good combination of physicality and finesse in his game. He was rebounding aggressively at both ends of the court and he made several rim runs in transition. He showed some explosiveness around the basket by throwing down a dunk in traffic.
