College Commitment – Charles Kapranos (2024 Grant)
With his high school playing career all done at Grant, Charles Kapranos Charles Kapranos 6'4" | SF Grant | 2024 State OR went to work on his college recruitment. As a high-academic performer, the tough 6-foot-5 forward had a number of Northwest Conference programs and beyond vying for his services, knowing his combination of toughness and skill were premium at the D-III level. Kapranos was thorough in the entire process as he considered all the schools but in the end he decided the right fit was at Pacific Lutheran.
“I choose PLU because through all my visits it just felt the best in my gut,” Kapranos said. “Also Coach (Chad) Murray was the first one to start recruiting me about a year ago now and he’s really been a great guy towards me and he doesn’t fully know me yet too. I like that the program is not at the top and I can contribute to get it there by the time I’m done. I just love that grind!”
Kapranos fielded interest from a number of programs with Northwest Conference rival Puget Sound and Cal Lutheran also considered heavily. But the Lutes had not only what the forward wanted on the basketball floor but also off of it as well, as Kapranos is looking to double major in kinesioplogy and business/sports management. For what he’ll provide on the court, he’s prepared to do what it takes to contribute.
“I see myself being able to expand my game and continue to become better from the outside,” Kapranos said. “I just need to get in the weight room and get bigger to play against grown men.”
One of the leaders at Grant this season, Kapranos averaged team highs with 13.3 points and 7.1 rebounds, earning Second Team All-PIL honors. It was a special season for the Generals as they made it to the 6A State Tournament, one that he’ll never forget. “Having the team come together through lots of adversity and then be able to do what no one but ourselves that we could,” Kapranos said.
With his pledge, Kapranos joins fellow Oregonian Kellen Kinder Kellen Kinder 6'7" | C Valley Catholic | 2024 State OR in PLU’s current recruiting class, which could potentially add more from Oregon’s Class of 2024 in the upcoming weeks. Our congratulations go to Kapranos and his family on his commitment.
