His passing instincts are advanced, he sees the floor one step ahead, consistently finding teammates ducking in, cutting sharply, or spotting up on the perimeter. What stands out most is Etienne’s unselfishness and composure as he ensures that every possession flows and that each teammate stays active within the offense.

Desmond is a pass first point guard who gets into the lane at an efficient clip and shoots the ball well on open jumpers. His hustle play on the glass was clutch for his squad and he never stops moving on offense as well. Etienne figures to play a good role at Dobie HS this upcoming season and will factor into both sides of the court. I was not familiar with Desmond before ROW but will keep him on my radar for this school year.

He’s particularly effective at finding the open man going downhill to the basket, making good reads in those situations. Throughout the month, I witnessed Desmond have both impressive scoring and passing performances. When scoring, he can consistently get on streaks, making shots from different areas of the floor. Defensively, Desmond played exceptionally well, with his on-ball presence and off-ball coverage. I saw him strip ball handlers, deflect passes, and maintain an aggressive play on the defensive end of the floor. The effort he showed to make up for his mistakes was exceptional. Off turnovers, he kept his attitude sharp and made effort plays to follow up on his mistakes.

What stood out about Etienne? Defense — plain and simple. He’s disruptive at the point of attack, constantly tipping passes, getting steals, and snagging tough rebounds. But he’s not just a defensive stopper — he’s poised in the open court, makes smart reads, and delivers passes on time. His jumper is clean and efficient, and his ball control is steady. For a bigger guard who values defense and plays downhill, Etienne’s game travels well, and he’s one to keep tracking this summer.
