Wakefield point guard [player_tooltip player_id='1707193' first='Syncere' last='Burnette']'s status continues to rise on the PH radar as he takes home this year's CAP6 Player of the Year award in a close voting battle. He took home roughly 33.5 percent of the votes, overtaking Millbrook's [player_tooltip player_id='1030027' first='Alex' last='Olander'], who won roughly 30.1 percent votes in securing the victory. CAP6 scoring leader [player_tooltip player_id='1272558' first='Colt' last='Langdon'] won 18.2 percent of the votes while Knightdale's Jason Dickerson took home roughly 18.2 percent of the votes.

The Player of the Year victory shows Burnette's continued development on the varsity stage with the Wakefield Wolverines in the conference. He produced 7.4 PPG, 4.2 APG, 3.2 RPG and 1.2 SPG in 2022-23 as a junior and this season, all of his production rose as he produced 18.4 PPG, 5.8 APG, 5.2 RPG and 2.8 SPG on 49 percent shooting from the field and 32 percent shooting from deep as a top unsigned floor general to know in the Raleigh area. His victory shows that more than just scoring was taken into account when discussing impact. Burnette ranked first in the NAC6 in assists per game while finishing second in scoring and steals per game. His 40 made 3-pointers ranked fourth in the conference as well. He emerged as quite the floor general for Wakefield High in leading them to a 19-5 record and 7-3 finish in conference action.

The 6-foot-2 point guard is an electric playmaker in the open floor and half court and when under control, he's shown he's a lethal presence in the backcourt to deal with. He dished out at least two assists in every outing this season and nearly put together a triple-double with 17 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds in a 53-49 victory over Leesville Road back on Dec. 14 in the inaugural NAC6/CAP6 Challenge. He's a prospect for DIII and JUCO programs in the region to get to know as his senior year wraps up at Wakefield High.
