Six standout South La. point guards late in the season

Lead guards from up and down Interstates 10 and 12 were among the standouts who caught our eye during the final weeks of Louisiana's high school basketball regular season.   Here's a look at six south Louisiana point guards — in some cases combo guard prospects with heavy ball-handling duties — who provided some of the top performances Prep Redzone Louisiana saw during recent scouting trips.   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySaJPMCrl7o </div></figure>     Bradford Cain — 5-10 G — Teurlings Catholic (2024)   The third-year starter had the Rebels' offense humming during their trip to Baton Rouge for a big victory against Family Christian before tipping off a quick round of district action. Cain had seven assists with his strong execution in both half-court sets and pushing the pace in transition with fast-break opportunities often sparked by his and his backcourt mates' use of their length and physicality on the other end against a young Flames group. Cain also hit a pair of 3-pointers of his own and made consistent use of his quick pull-ups and elevations for short jumpers and floaters in the lane.   [player_tooltip player_id='1800017' first='Raymond' last='Hart Jr']. — 6-2 G — Franklinton (2025)   The long, lean guard put on a scoring show to keep his Demons battling with host Capitol in a late-season nondistrict battle in Baton Rouge. Though the Lions pulled away for the victory, Hart highlighted the night with 36 points from all over the floor, including six 3-pointers on 42.9% shooting from deep, several aggressive drives to the rack and 10-for-12 foul-shooting. He also grabbed seven rebounds, dished out four assists despite a tough shooting night for most of his teammates and snatched two steals.   Nico Jones — 6-2 G — Catholic (Baton Rouge) (2025)   The combo guard is one of several good ball-handlers and facilitators for a perimeter-oriented Bears team. In addition to helping run the offense, Jones uses his strong build and physicality in a variety of capacities to help lead the team on both ends of the court from finishing at the rim, posting up, defending, rebounding and confidently standing in to draw charges.   [player_tooltip player_id='1434766' first='Jeremiah' last='Lewis'] — 6-2 G — Ponchatoula (2024)   Another combo guard who shares ball-handling duties, the senior is a key leader on a veteran Green Wave squad that says this year's team is even better than last year's title team and focused and hungry to go back-to-back. His three first-quarter 3-pointers and seven in total Friday helped lead Ponchatoula's overall sharpshooting that highlighted a blowout defeat of G.W. Carver in a high-profile matchup of defending champs. But his ball-handling and ability on the drive to get by defenders and create opportunities for himself and for his teammates — with at least four assists in the game — are consistent strengths of his game whether or not the outside shot is falling.   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMzVszLH72A </div></figure>     [player_tooltip player_id='2408250' first='Malek' last='Robinson'] — 5-10 G — Liberty Magnet (2025)   The junior has developed as another clear team leader and consistent standout alongside senior backcourt mate [player_tooltip player_id='1105591' first='Howard' last='Gaskins'] Jr. Robinson is pesky nightmare on the defensive end with his length, quickness and tenacity that help snatch multiple steals every time out and force other turnovers off his deflections and general disruption.
