Last season, the Storm finished 12-7; Coach Drummond has set their expectations to be very competitive with a 16-8 campaign and to make a strong run in the 3A playoffs. The team has depth and should make a push based on their play so far leading into the regular season. Let’s take a deeper dive.
Key Games: 11/27 vs Andrew Jackson, 11/29 @ Raines, 12/6 vs NFEI, 12/9 @ Maclay, 12/15 @ Ribault, 1/19 @ Ponte Vedra & 1/31 vs Impact Christian. SJP has a great schedule that could put the program on the map this season.
Top Returning Player: Deiontaye Grant Deiontaye Grant 6'5" | CG San Jose Preparatory Academy | 2024 FL l 6-4 l Wing
Grant is most effective around the rim. A rebound-and-go type of player that can go coast to coast. He is a freight train moving downhill in the open court. Solid defensive talent who can defend multiple positions. Grant averaged 11 PPG, 6 RPG, and 2 SPG last season. He holds an offer from the University of Ft. Lauderdale.
The X-Factor: Suliman Koko Suliman Koko 6'2" | CG San Jose Prep | 2024 FL l 6-2 l Guard
Koko is a Swiss army knife. His versatility is what stands out to me. Great glue guy, a gritty defender, and has good ball skills. His production flies under the radar as he averaged 13 PPG and 6 APG last season. An increase in his assists is in his favor as the Storm added more scoring and depth.
Impactful Transfers: Calen Wiggins Calen Wiggins 6'5" | SF San Jose Prep | 2024 FL l 6-6 l Forward
Long, athletic two-way player making his way from Ridgeview High School. He finishes in traffic and knows how to protect the rim. Wiggins is most effective inside the arc offensively. He was the leading scorer for the Roadrunners last year, roughly 16 PPG. The move to SJP should be great for both sides. His scoring may take a slight dip due to the amount of offensive weapons on the team, but the production will be the same as he is a great team player who can do more than just score.
Hidden Gem: Bryan Hill l 6-3 l Wing
Hill is coming from First Coast High and will immediately impact their perimeter shooting. He shoots the ball at a high clip, north of 40%. Good size wing with a motor and moves without the basketball to get open looks.
Impactful Underclassmen: Adrian North 25′ & Nicholas Muff 25′
