PICTURED: Franklin team.

Monday evening Franklin defeated Rossview in the Hawk gym, 75-69 (OT). What lessons did we learn?

Domination

Though Franklin won two Hawks of RHS clearly dominated offensively. [player_tooltip player_id='2361130' first='Jacob' last='Edwards'] was great scoring 26 points (3 3's) and senior [player_tooltip player_id='1476194' first='Cam' last='Ward'] scored 24 points along with frustrating defense. Cam is very, very, very fast with nice, long arms at 6-foot-2. He is kind of a combo guard, ranked for the last 2 years with PrepHoopsTN. Jacob is a guy that is new to me. Strong. Built like a football player, Jacob was a surprisingly accurate outside shooter (3-5 3's) considering most hulking high school dudes simply can't shoot. Overall, Edwards did not shoot efficiently though (6-19 FG).

For Franklin a number of players thrived, but [player_tooltip player_id='1318564' first='Christian' last='Brown'] is so obviously a man among boys out there. Brown is all of 6-foot-5, maybe taller and his shoulders make him look like he just broke out of prison, where weightlifting can be an all-day activity! Brown transformed his body in the last 1.5 years from a slinky wing to a foreboding faceup forward.

He finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds and four blocks, scoring layups with authority and a dunk here and there. Brown just was not challenged in the paint. This might occur multiple times this season, as his strength, bounce, and size are extremely rare at the high school level.

An 11-point scorer, Gil Jones (Franklin) was not dominating as much as steady. He defended the perimeter quite well and took care of the basketball. Big overtime too.

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1476101' first='Davis' last='Long'] played very well for Franklin, cutting into the lane and kicking quite a bit. Long also scored 27 points. His kicks were not always on the money, but they certainly alarmed the collapsing Rossview defense by swiftly changing the point of attack. The leadership of Davis really showed in the tense moments too.

Depth

Rossview Hawks decided to play six players virtually the entire time. They did not go to the bench much at all. Only Jay Yip and Chris..Johnson played beyond the five starters. The Hawks opened with sophomore Jiyair Rice and four seniors: [player_tooltip player_id='1476194' first='Cam' last='Ward'], Quamond Linsey, Landon Hankemeir, [player_tooltip player_id='2361130' first='Jacob' last='Edwards'].

Conversely, Franklin played ten different players to varying degrees. Guys who found some burn without starting included: [player_tooltip player_id='2400292' first='Tyler' last='Roberts'], [player_tooltip player_id='2338255' first='Logan' last='Brimhall'], Kiran Moore, Carson Vaughn, [player_tooltip player_id='2401357' first='Hayden' last='McLarty'].

Overtime

Gil Jones was the star of overtime, making four of his four free throws. The senior managed to get one big layup off of a turnover in that pivotal frame. He scored 6 of his 11 points in that critical overtime period. [player_tooltip player_id='1318564' first='Christian' last='Brown'] split a pair and [player_tooltip player_id='1476101' first='Davis' last='Long'] made two free throws. Rossview was obviously outscored in overtime, obvious since they lost. Not obvious that it would transpire that way. [player_tooltip player_id='1476194' first='Cam' last='Ward'] made 2-2 free throws and [player_tooltip player_id='2361130' first='Jacob' last='Edwards'] made 1-2. That was it.

Rossview starters*
#3 Jiyair Rice* (2026)
#5 [player_tooltip player_id='1476194' first='Cam' last='Ward'] *
#13 Quamond Linsey
#15 [player_tooltip player_id='2352385' first='Landon' last='Hankemeier'] *
#22 [player_tooltip player_id='2361130' first='Jacob' last='Edwards']*
Jay Yip
Chris.Johnson

Franklin starters*
#2 [player_tooltip player_id='1273548' first='Sam' last='Mewborn']*
#3 [player_tooltip player_id='1318564' first='Christian' last='Brown']*
#4 [player_tooltip player_id='1476101' first='Davis' last='Long']*
#5 [player_tooltip player_id='2338276' first='Zander' last='Johnson']*
#30 Gil Jones*
