Charles Yates | Prep Hoops Scout
Chase continues to showcase himself week after week as one of the top prospects in the Houston 2027 class. He continues his momentum from the season at Friendswood into the summer running with TJ Ford 3SSB 17u. He knows how to create space for himself and shoot off the dribble from all 3 levels, as well as displaying elite decision making in crunch time. He plays with a great change of pace on offense and can take advantage in pick and roll situations as the ballhandler. He explodes to the rim with athletic ability and can cause turnovers on defense in a hurry.

High-level ball-handler who carried the facilitating load with ease. Richardson’s herky-jerky, shifty footwork and dynamic handle kept defenders guessing, constantly playing them with change of pace. Chase controlled space like few guards his age, maintaining separation with drag dribbles, bounce-outs, and tempo manipulation that opened passing angles or driving gaps. He’s a remarkable dime-dropper, elevating teammates with his ability to throw guys open, delivering passes where only his teammates could retrieve them.

is the starting guard for Friendswood who was thoroughly impressive with his ability to read the opposing BMT Westbrook defense. As a skilled dribbler, he effectively sets up the offense and creates his own shot opportunities. His ability to pass and operate in the pick and roll makes him a formidable offensive threat. Chase aggressively attacks any driving lane he has in the half court while often dunking in transition. As an athletic guard he can explode to the rim with ease, making him a constant threat on offense. Defensively he is a reliable on-ball defender who maintains a good distance between himself and opposing players. Additionally, he has a knack for stealing the ball, often sneakingly tipping the ball out of opponent’s hands by making quick rotations on the defense.

Chase was a huge scorer for TJ Ford 3SSB on Friday night, getting buckets from all 3 levels and keeping teammates involved with his playmaking ability. Richardson was playing up on 17u this weekend as a 2027 guard and was still one of the best IQ players on the court. He is effective off the pick and roll, either dishing to an open teammate for a quick bucket or using quickness of the dribble to score over his matchup and the tough defense. Chase is a good leader at the point guard slot and is one of the biggest stock risers in not only Houston, but the entire state for the 2027 class.

is a combo guard with excellent feel and versatility. He’s capable of running the offense or sliding off the ball to space the floor as a shooter. Richardson has a smooth release and consistent mechanics from deep, and he’s unselfish as a playmaker. His frame and length give him defensive potential at both guard spots. A reliable and smart guard with upside.

A pure shot creator with exceptional ball control, Richardson’s ability to keep the ball tightly attached to his dribble was remarkable. His quick, powerful handles left defenders scrambling as he used a blend of crossovers, hesitations, and step-backs to create separation before elevating for mid-range pull-ups. His deadly scoring prowess made him a nightmare to guard, especially in isolation situations.

Chase was probably the most dynamic scorer I saw in all of Sunday’s games that I watched as he took on Summer Creek in the first game of the day for the tournament. Richardson displays excellent IQ as the floor general for Friendswood and paced the offense with great transition plays, whether scoring or assisting. He is a blur dribbling downhill with the ball in his hands and makes things happen on the offensive end. He is a master at keeping teammates involved with needle threading passes and always knowing where his squad is on the court at all times. Chase currently has an offer from Sam Houston State University.
