He uses his height to his advantage with good timing on his blocks, often keeping the ball in play and not just swatting it to the bleachers. Plays with good verticality too, allowing him to contest shots at the rim without fouling. Is a reliable three point shooter, adding to his next level value. Steelman put his names into the Mustang Holiday Classic record books by not only setting the record for most blocks in a single game. He sat it for most blocks for all three games in the tournament. Steelman had 8 rejections, and it could’ve been more if the refs hadn’t made some questionable calls against him. Starting in the second quarter, he absolutely dominated the paint. Seemingly swatting anything that came near him. It was good to see the skilled big man embrace his height and work to dominate the paint by also grabbing 7 rebounds.

Further adding to Choctaw’s versatile depth is the junior forward, who is continuing to play with more and more of an edge. Steelman is challenging shots more and more at the rim. While also cleaning up around the offensive end.

While Choctaw is loaded with seniors, Steelman is one of the juniors who might hold a key to their season. He’s playing stronger, quicker and with more confidence that last year. The stretch forward still hits occasional three, but he was more impactful around the rim in this game. From an one dribble power move into a finish, off the ball cutting and even a nice two handed flush. This impact also translated to the defensive end, as he showed some good helpside defense principles with contesting shots in the fourth quarter.
