Sims has found his role with the Jaguars as an energy boost off the bench. He plays both sides of the ball very well and is a knockdown shooter in clutch moments. Sims got more and more varsity time as the season progressed for the Jaguars, and he made the most of his opportunities, which will inevitably lead to him getting a larger role for Atrisco next season. Atrisco will look to repeat the level of success they had this past year, and Sims will be invaluable to their efforts as he continues to grow his name in the state.
Landon Begay Landon Begay 6'0" | SG Farmington | 2025 State NM – Guard – Farmington (28 to 21)
Begay is a solid all-around player, contributing to his team in every way possible. He’s a scrappy guard who can get steals and start fast breaks, as well as knock down shots when swung the ball. His role as a do-it-all guard will continue to serve him well as he continues to produce at a consistent rate. Alongside Class of 2024 guard Cody Vassar-Steen Cody Vassar-Steen 6'2" | PG Farmington | 2024 State NM , they form one of the most underrated backcourts in 5A, and the Scorpions will be one of my dark horse candidates to make a run at this year’s 5A Playoffs.
Josiah Fresquez Josiah Fresquez 5'8" | PG Los Alamos | 2025 State NM – Guard – Los Alamos (47 to 18)
Frankly I’m not sure how Fresquez ended up being so low in the first place. He was top 10 in 4A this past year for PPG and was number 1 in PPG among 4A sophomores. Fresquez is more than just a bucket getter however, as he led the Hilltoppers in both Points Per Game as well as Assists Per Game. On top of this, he was an extremely efficient 41% from 3 point range. He’ll pair up with Class of 2024 guard Niko Garcia Niko Garcia 6'1" | SG Los Alamos | 2024 State NM this year to form one of the best backcourts in the state. Fresquez is easily one of the most under appreciated players in the state and he’ll look to continue his dominance into next season.
Jasode Harris Jasode Harris 5'10" | CG Belen | 2025 State NM – Guard – Belen (37 to 32)
Harris really hit his stride this offseason as he’s developed into a consistent catch-and-shoot threat for the Eagles. His confidence has grown greatly and he’s becoming increasingly more valuable to his team. Harris is a true shooting guard with the ability to knock down shots from anywhere around the 3 point line, and he moves with a smoothness that allows him to get open off-ball with ease. Belen somewhat struggled this past year, but they return a large amount of their players, and Harris will be part of the second wind of the Eagles as they go into next season with high expectations.
Kasyn Perea – Guard – Albuquerque (62 to 36)
Perea hasn’t had the chance to shine because of NMAA transfer rules, but this year he’ll have every opportunity to showcase his talent to the state with the Bulldogs. Perea is an extremely shifty point guard with great control and change-of-pace abilities, as well as good court vision to go along with it. He’s able to carve out space at will and shake off pesky defenders at will, and can finish at the rim around taller defenders. With Albuquerque keeping most of their squad from last year, Perea will fit right in and no doubt find success with the Bulldogs.
