The former Edmond Santa Fe standout, DeWayne McKinney, took his talents to John Marshall to finish his high school career. McKinney had a strong junior season where he earned valuable minutes against some of the state’s toughest competition. At 6’5, he’s a versatile combo guard who brings size, athleticism, and plenty of 6A experience to a talented John Marshall squad. That experience should translate well as he enters 4A competition.

McKinney reminded everyone of his scoring ability this summer when he erupted for 46 points in a single game. He’s a relentless downhill attacker who thrives in transition, finishes through contact, and has the athleticism to rise above defenders at the rim. His combination of strength, speed, and explosiveness makes him one of the toughest matchups in Oklahoma entering the season.

McKinney had flashes of scoring excellence as part of a loaded Edmond Santa Fe squad. Now the guard with all the next level measurables will be the main man for John Marshall. This summer he has thrived in the up and down tempo of AAU basketball. With the ability to go coast to coast as an one man fast break. While also being very difficult to keep out of the lane in the halfcourt. Has a very nice iso game, keeping defenders guessing. Powerful dunks when given a runway also point out his untapped upside. Looks set to explode for a huge senior season with the Bears.

McKinney’s weekend including a 46 point explosion. That wasn’t the game watched back, but he still was a productive scorer. In the game watched back, his jumper wasn’t as on point. But he still impressed with his ability to get to the rim and the line. Good athlete, who’s ability to hit off the bounce helps open his room to get by defenders. Then at the rim, he routinely takes bumps, hangs in the air and still finishes.

Has a real knack as a shot maker, which started to show more and more during Santa Fe’s State Tournament run. Now he’s taken the keys for his new OK U Premier program and is elevating his production.

The 2027 guard was the best player on the floor in last night’s rematch against BA. He led all scorers with 23 points. McKinney was active from all three levels offensively, knocked down big shots for Santa Fe played tremendous defensively. He lived in the paint by taking defenders off the bounce breakaway steals he played really good. What really made McKinney stick out was his activity. He was consistently active throughout the whole game with rebounding, steals, running the floor, always cutting. They even attempted to throw him a backside lob. He played with a great motor the whole game. He’s gonna be a player to watch during the playoffs. 

One of the many Wolves already stepping up this year. Had a productive game with a variety of scoring. Punched home a drive in the second quarter. Quality shot making along the perimeter. Enjoyed a big second quarter as his team pulled away. Solid all around scoring guard who is really coming into his own as an athlete and is using that to reach a new level.
