As we approach the preseason for high school basketball, we will take a look at some different categories of players and those that excel in those roles in different areas of the state. Today, we take a look at some of the top rim rockers in the Hampton Roads part of the state.

[player_tooltip player_id='1759704' first='My'Kel' last='Jenkins'] | 6'5” WF | Woodside 2024

Jenkins is still in my opinion one of the most under recruited players in the entire state of VA, as he has a lot of tools including great size and athleticism on the wing that allows him to get to the rim and make plays others can't make. The 6'5” wing is long and smooth as he can get by defenders and get downhill where he can put it down over defenders, he can get out in transition where he can handle the rock or catch lobs and he is able to soar for rebounds and blocks when he comes help side too.

[player_tooltip player_id='1259632' first='Zekhi' last='Darden'] | 6'5” WF | Kings Fork 2024

Darden just looks the part with his long frame and legs, and just seeing him run up and down he is an explosive leaper who uses his athleticism in a number of different ways. He's a big time rebounder on both ends and he attacks the offensive glass for put backs, he runs the floor in transition for easy opportunities at the rim and he is a very good rim protector for his position.

Savion Sandford | 6'1” PG | Kempsville 2024

Sandford may not be the biggest guy on this list, but don't get it fooled as he can get up with the best of them and because of his height his above the rim play brings tons of energy to his team. He's a very good defender who can force turnovers and get out in transition where he can effortlessly throw it down, he gets downhill where he has good hang time to make tough finishes and he can chase down and come help side to block shots on much bigger defenders.

[player_tooltip player_id='1956061' first='Sincere' last='Jones'] | 6'5” WF | Churchland 2025

Jones is growing into one of the best prospects in the 757 over the past year, and he's one of those players that just looks like an athlete and he is one as he is strong and explosive around the rim and can make highlight plays left and right. His size allows him to hit the glass on put backs and he is explosive enough to finish off the vert, he can handle it and get downhill where he can finish through defenders and is dynamite in transition as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='1963390' first='Kosi' last='Mgbejiofor'] | 6'10” C | Catholic 2026

Mgbejiofor has already caught the attention of a number of high major programs as he is a freak athlete for his size and is able to own the paint with length and athleticism. He gets up and down the floor unlike many bigs to catch lobs, he can catch in the paint and rise up off the vert or a couple of steps and tries to dunk everything, he's excellent hitting the offensive glass for put backs and he's a natural rim protector with great timing with his athleticism.

[player_tooltip player_id='1963394' first='Zaevion' last='Cleveland'] | 6'4” WF | Landstown 2026

Cleveland is part of a young Landstown team that has a ton of upside moving forward, and he himself has a ton of upside too with his frame and explosive athleticism already. Cleveland's athleticism can be seen on both ends of the floor as he's a good defender on the ball and when he comes help side to challenge shots, he can play above the rim in transition and in set plays in the half court and he can put it on the deck and get downhill where he can use his athleticism to finish through contact.

As we approach the preseason for high school basketball, we will take a look at some different categories of players and those that excel in those roles in different areas of the state. Today, we take a look at some of the top rim rockers in the Hampton Roads part of the state.
