The Ohio Freshman Showcase brought over 50 prospects to Fieldhouse USA to give me a first look at a majority of the prospects competing. A quick forward who can attack from the perimeter and get into the paint, Arbogast was also an impressive athlete who got above the rim for some layups and even a dunk as well. Going to a Saint Edward system that prioritizes development and working against older players in practice should allow Arbogast to develop more of a perimeter game before we see him playing heavy minutes at the varsity level. A name that hoops fans around northeast Ohio will hear a lot about in the coming years. His court vision was very advanced for his age and he got the ball to his teammates on time and on the money. As a scorer, Daniels hit some mid-range jumpers and had a tough lefty and-1 layup. Still maturing physically, expect to see Daniels grow a couple inches in the next 12 months and add some weight to be able to compete physically at the varsity level sooner rather than later. His ability to finish with either hand was impressive, and he liked to use the euro-step to avoid a rim protector. Dynamic with the ball in his hands, I saw Whitt split the defense on the pick and roll and give his team an offensive advantage with a 4 on 3 look. Defensively, Whitt also had a couple steals that led to transition opportunities for his team. Most of his points came off the pick and roll where he set a strong screen and used the talent of his guards to draw the defense to them while he rolled to the hoop for easy buckets. Understanding how to use your teammates abilities to get easy shots is tough to master as a young prospect but Burns showed high IQ moving off the ball and getting open looks. The lefty wing was able to take it coast to coast after a few defensive rebounds and score at the other end. I liked the competitiveness that he showed at both ends of the court. Near the end of the camp Cox even rose up for a slam dunk as well. Playing for Chilicothe, you will likely see Cox making a big impact at the varsity level in the FAC this winter. Sometimes just running the floor hard will get you layups and a few times Rowe beat the defense down the court for an easy look. Able to create for himself in the half-court by using crossovers and spin moves to create space against the defense. As a slasher, Rowe used the step through and euro-step to get past defenders and make room to score.
