Countless Sophomores Showed Readiness this Weekend

The sophomore jump is enormous. During high school the greatest jump in production and ability is often considered to take place between freshmen and sophomore seasons.

Many sophomores made statements this weekend whether it be during BCAT or PrepHoopsTN Combine.

These are their stories.

Keaton Whaley (Baylor School) - BCAT Team Camp

Ultra-quick, gritty. Whaley played a good amount even though Baylor School is a team with many dependable guards. His skills and toughness is pretty far along for his grade.

Baraka made his PrepHoopsTN debut, and it went well for the speedy guard.

Trey Pearson Trey Pearson 6'2" | PG John Paul II | 2026 State #122 Nation TN (Pope Prep) - BCAT Team Camp

Quick hands. Smooth dribble. Trey was incredible during the spring AAU run and this weekend starring surprised no one.

Jarron Talley Jarron Talley 6'4" | SG Pope John Paul II | 2026 State TN (Pope Prep) - BCAT Team Camp

During my first time watching Jarron in-person the forward played ferocious. Active. His assistant coach revealed Talley was slightly dinged up, making his performance all the more impressive.

Tae’Shawn Shelton Tae’Shawn Shelton 6'6" | PF Shelbyville Central | 2026 State TN (Shelbyville Central) PrepHoopsTN Combine

Wildly athletic. For us, Shelton was a complete unknown entering the event. Jumps out of the gym. Faster than a deer. Tall, long legs. He is built like a high jumper.
