The 12 winners advanced to the official Section-7 Friday-Sunday versus some of the top teams in the West Coast.
Here were some of the top CG’s I viewed: (Many scoring CG’s who can play both spots.)
Moses Bahige Moses Bahige 6'2" | CG Inspire Prep National | 2024 State AZ Cienega
A newcomer is a good-sized, long scoring guard. He can hit the three, make plays for his teammates and get into the paint with his size and score in the lane. He handles it well and is competitive on both sides of the court.
Peanut Barnes Peanut Barnes 6'0" | CG Phhoenix Prep | 2024 AZ North Canyon
A shifty guard can handle it well with speed to burn. He will score on threes, mid-range pull-ups and get to the rim with a burst. He facilitates and moves the ball. He is very quick on the ball defensively and will be vital to their teams success.
Anthony Bolton Anthony Bolton 6'0" | CG Dobson | 2024 State AZ Dobson
Another new player is a scoring combo guard. His downhill game is tough. He euros really well and has stronger upper body to handle contact and score thru it. He can step into a three and uses his length in the passing lanes on defense.
Zayden Canchano Zayden Canchano 5'8" | CG Willow Canyon | 2025 State AZ Willow Canyon
A scoring combo guard is tough and skilled. He is a little undersized but can pull-up from mid-range and gets by his defenders with hesitation moves. He can work inside with no fear and will move the ball to open teammates.
Gavin Dabney Gavin Dabney 6'5" | SG Higley | 2025 State AZ Higley
A bigger guard who handles it well and makes plays. He has an elite feel for his size and makes the game super easy for his teammates. He shoots it from deep, drives the lane with his sturdy frame, grabs rebounds like a power forward and has the finesse to finish off tough shots in traffic.
Santino Esquivel Santino Esquivel 5'10" | CG Carl Hayden | 2024 State AZ Carl Hayden
A tough combo guard brings that football attitude and toughness to the court. He plays with a big motor to compete. He rebounds, defends with quick feet and hands on the ball and can score. He can hit three, score on tougher drives and can throw the dime.
Kaden Garber Kaden Garber 5'10" | PG Chandler | 2024 State AZ Chandler
A thicker combo guard is strong and skilled. He can pull-up from mid to the three point line plus off the catch. He has good body control once he gets closer to the rim and absorbs the contact with his frame.
Amare King Amare King 6'5" | CG Casteel | 2025 State AZ Casteel
A bigger combo guard made some impressive passes along the week. His feel to make his teammates better is very high. He can hit shots from all levels and uses his size to rebound, collects steals and scores inside. A few coaches asked me about him during the weekend.
Leyton Steenhard Leyton Steenhard 6'0" | CG Queen Creek | 2025 State AZ Queen Creek
A true combo guard can score or make plays. He has the floater game, he can hit perimeter jumpers and can run the team. He is good off the pick and roll game and can find cutters and his shooters.
Brandon Stapleton Brandon Stapleton 6'4" | CG Chandler | 2026 State AZ Chander
A good sized scoring combo guard. The lefty can shoot the catch three, he gets on the glass to score on offensive rebound put backs and will dribble drive and score in the paint. He seems like he will keep growing.
Travis Vasquez Travis Vasquez 6'2" | PG Deer Valley | 2024 State AZ Deer Valley (Pictured)
A scoring guard is transforming into a point guard. His catch three was clicking, as he was pulling up with range and confidence. He got to the spots he wanted to and rose up and delivered. He also was finding teammates in stride with drive and kicks and slipped a few thru in traffic. His stock soared up at the end of the AIA season and is looking to make another leap.
