The senior leader for the Scots, Lucas had an unbelievable senior season and has been an incredible multi-sport athlete for Walnut Ridge. Lucas had some key interior buckets for his team but most importantly had some key defensive plays and kept his team believing after they fell behind early in the game. Incredible effort to come back and take the lead in the second half.

Dropping 51 points is an easy way to make a top performer article as Lucas broke the record for most points at the 5 C’s Classic. Making a high percentage of his 3-point looks, Lucas was making them from the top of key, wing and corner. I also liked how aggressive he was as a rebounder, getting numerous second chance buckets. I also liked how Lucas motor never stopped and once Walnut Ridge got a lead, he continued to play with an edge that showed the Scots were never giving up the lead they built.

It’s almost disrespectful to put Lucas in the ‘dual sport’ category because he excels at FOUR varsity sports for Walnut Ridge. In the fall you can catch Lucas on the gridiron, in the winter he’s seen playing basketball and wrestling and in the spring he’s on the track. Against rival Eastmoor, Lucas had over 300 all purpose yards and six touchdowns. One of the most versatile athletes in the state, Lucas stays busy all year round.

There are few athletes as diverse as Lucas is. A four sport athlete at Walnut Ridge, Lucas is making noise 12 months a year. When you see Lucas it isn’t a surprise that he’s able to contribute in multiple sports with an excellent frame. On the hardwood, Lucas plays bigger than his listed height and is tough on the interior. Also capable of stretching out the defense with spot-up jumpers, Lucas had some big scoring games last season. His future at the college level likely lies on the gridiron but Lucas is one of the most impressive overall athletes in Ohio he deserves a spot in our rankings as well.

Lucas played huge for Walnut Ridge last night but specifically in the second half. He was solid and hit a couple of shots in the first half but he very closely won the game in the second half himself. He hit big shot after big shot for Walnut Ridge. He caught fire from beyond the arc in the 3rd quarter which gave the Scots a commanding lead when Northland got close. In the fourth quarter, he did a lot of damage inside the paint. One of the biggest plays of the game is him taking a charge against Northland’s biggest player and giving him his 5th foul early in the 4th. Once this happened, the dynamic of the game changed. Lucas turned into the bully in the paint. He was getting multiple rebounds and put-back buckets. He was playing hard and competed all game long. He wanted to win this game and played an essential role in the second half for the win.

Lucas played with some incredible energy and passion on Saturday. He was making big-time threes for Walnut Ridge and was doing everything he could to win the game for them. He was making a ton of hustle plays as well. He has some good size for a 6’2 guard and was consistently making impact plays from all over the floor. He also showed really good leadership ability. I love what I saw from Lucas.

Walnut Ridge has a lot of new faces and Lucas was incredibly productive in a victory over a talented out of state squad from Buffalo. A strong forward, Lucas can move defenders around the basket with his strength and aggressiveness. A tough finisher around the rim, Lucas was finishing through contact early and often. Even stretching out and hitting 3-pointers as well, it was a complete scoring effort. A multi-sport athlete, Lucas will likely end up playing a different sport in college but is a tough and productive high school basketball player, he’ll be a big part of Walnut Ridge’s success this winter.
