VISAA Live Period Preview: VA Prospects (Part 1)

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The June scholastic live periods are getting underway starting the weekend of June 16-18, and the DMV will be a must stop for college coaches. The annual DMV Live at DeMatha, Virginia Live Period Shootout (VISAA) and Alexandria City and the first ever VA Live by the VHSL will take place at Saint James, all within a 30 mile radius of each other.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We will take the next week or so breaking down the many prospects for coaches to take a look at in these events, and there's a TON of them.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here's a look at part one of the Virginia prospects at the Virginia Live Period Shootout we expect to make noise at the event.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1759699' first='Kamren' last='Martin'] | 6'4” CG | Blue Ridge '24</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1777527,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/02/Martin-Kamren.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/02/Martin-Kamren.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1777527" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>If coaches are looking to do their homework and find an under the radar prospect, they should definitely check out Martin who is coming off a big junior season and checks the boxes in a number of ways for the next level. At 6'4” he has great size for a guard and uses that size to see over defenders and make tough shots, he is quick and shifty off the bounce and gets to spots where he can make shots from multiple levels and he makes others better with his vision and feel too.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1489035' first='Markus' last='Robinson'] | 6'3” WG | Blue Ridge '24</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1978333,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/06/Robinson-Markus-Loaded.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/06/Robinson-Markus-Loaded.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1978333" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Robinson is another under the radar rising senior for this Blue Ridge team, and he's had a big time high school career and is able to score the ball with the best of them. While he isn't the biggest or most athletic player, Robinson is a very talented shot maker that works well off the ball and has great footwork to get into his shot, he knocks it down from deep and in the midrange and he is consistent and efficient as a shooter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1767516' first='Colby' last='White'] | 6'4” WF | Blue Ridge '25</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>White is one of the most intriguing young prospects in VA that not many people know about yet, but that could change when coaches get eyes on him during the live period. He has very long arms and is a good athlete that allows him to play bigger than his 6'4” frame would suggest, he gets downhill and out in transition where he uses his length and athleticism to finish, he can make shots from deep and put it on the deck and his potential on the defensive end is through the roof.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Odita Aguolo | 6'6” WF | Blue Ridge '26</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1978863,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/06/Aguolo-Odita.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/06/Aguolo-Odita.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1978863" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>While Aguolo didn't get a lot of time on a very talented Blue Ridge team last year, Head Coach Cade Lemcke told me before the season he has a chance to be special and so far this spring playing up with VA Elite 16U he's showing that. The 6'6” wing already has good size and is an exceptional athlete who plays above the rim with ease, he gets out in transition where he can handle it or run wide and he's becoming a much more consistent shooter from deep as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Brent Thompson | 5'10” PG | Benedictine '24</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1978343,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/06/Thompson-Brent.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/06/Thompson-Brent.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1978343" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Thompson is one of the most underrated players in the Richmond area, and he'll have a chance to put his name out there for college coaches during the live period where he can show his ability to score it in bunches at the point guard position. He's a crafty lefty who is shifty off the bounce and gets downhill where he can finish over bigger defenders, he is a dangerous shooter from deep with good range off the catch and off the bounce and he gets to the line often for easy points.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1259672' first='EJ' last='Joyner'] | 5'8” PG | Peninsula Catholic '24</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Joyner is a throwback style of point guard that is a true floor general who is pass first and gets his team into sets, but he can also get it going and score it when his team needs him to. He's a quick and shifty guard who handles pressure well and doesn't get sped up, he sees the floor very well and is excellent in the pick-and-roll where he makes great reads and he can knock down shots from deep and finish over bigger defenders in the paint.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
