Way Too Early Best Returners in D10-3A

<p>The District 10-3A gets a little bit of an edit to its membership this year. Murfreesboro Central Magnet is dropped. Hillwood is out. Hillwood, out?! No, not really. Hillwood High gets a new building, and that building is not exactly in the Hillwood neighborhood, so Metro Nashville gave the new building a new name: James Lawson High. </p>   <p>Which players are destined to thrive in the next season, the 2023-2024 basketball season?</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><span style="text-decoration: underline">D10-3A</span><br>Glencliff*<br>Hume-Fogg*<br>James Lawson*<br>Maplewood*<br>MLK*<br>Valor Prep</h2>   <p></p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Cooper Bussel - Valor Prep</h2>   <p>"He is like a pure point guard," said Head Coach Jeremy Pope. "Sees the floor really well. He shoots the ball really well. He is a high-IQ player."</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='1776234' first='Chris' last='Williams'] - Maplewood</h2>   <p>Williams will immediately be the first option offensively as five of the top six scorers all graduated. </p>   <p>Williams gets to the basket with a wonderfully quick first step. When he sees a seam in the defense he attacks and accelerates like few high school guards can. </p>   <p>Last year Williams averaged 13.5 ppg.</p>   <p>He has a shot to play after high school.</p>   <p><span style="text-decoration: underline">2022-2023 Maplewood Roster</span> (Starters*)<br>#2 [player_tooltip player_id='1776234' first='Chris' last='Williams']* (2024)<br>#5 G Donte Burchette (2025)<br>#12 Cheese McClain (2024)<br>#20 James Davis (2026)</p>   <p> After that it will be wide open to anyone in the program. <strong>Donte Burchette</strong>, <strong>James Davis</strong>, <strong>Cheese McClain</strong> all played sparingly last winter.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='1386326' first='Eric' last='Thomason'] - Glencliff</h2>   <p>Eric can create with some savvy. The senior-to-be is a really clever passer and ideally would be a pass-first point guard. This next Glencliff team will need him to score 12+ ppg just to keep pace in their district. Last year ET averaged 8.8 ppg, 3.9 apg, 4.0 topg, and 2.7 rpg. He is slick with the dribble though not explosive vertically. Most of his finishes in the lane will be floaters and leaners. Good free throw shooter.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='1259398' first='Michael' last='Nwoye'] - Hume-Fogg</h2>   <p>Nwoye is among the most elegant players in the district. Runs the floor like a deer. Nwoye can score in the lane or hit the jumper. Nwoye is just beginning to realize his lofty potential. MN tends to defend the forward spot, but probably projects as a 2/3 in college. His footwork and handle is surprisingly good considering his height at 6-foot-6. Nwoye's versatility really is special.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Kendall Soloman - MLK</h2>   <p>Athletic scorer.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Alonzo Rhodes - Hume-Fogg</h2>   <p>Alonzo Rhodes started last year and did a few noteworthy things. His athleticism is ok and he is strong enough. The team needs him to become more demanding offensively. He tends to defer when he might become more assertive. </p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='2220992' first='Terron' last='Stricklin'] - Glencliff</h2>   <p>As a junior Terron scored 10.0 points per game along with 3.4 rpg. The thin guard is very fast when he gets up to speed. </p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='1400904' first='MJ' last='Floyd'] - MLK</h2>   <p>Strong physically, [player_tooltip player_id='1400904' first='MJ' last='Floyd'] started as a sophomore for MLK and excelled way back in October at the PrepHoops250 Expo outside Memphis. He can score from a few points on the floor. Floyd will get a little more of the ball-handling this year along with [player_tooltip player_id='1400906' first='Avery' last='Townsend'] after [player_tooltip player_id='1400924' first='Kquinn' last='Donald']'s departure to graduation. For him the next step is to shoot better coming off of the dribble.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='1400906' first='Avery' last='Townsend'] - MLK</h2>   <p>Avery must be licking his lips with eagerness to get back to the State Tournament in Murfreesboro. He underperformed in the big moment, but this is a guard that can go. Wonderful on-ball defense. Rebounds at either end.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='1776315' first='D'Azjon' last='Dowell'] - Glencliff</h2>   <p>A volume scorer with nice first-step quickness. In his junior season, Dowell averaged 11.3 ppg along with 3.0 spg, 3.0 rpg, and 2.5 apg.
