We will take a look at the rankings by position over the next few days. Here’s a look at part one of our guards rankings, looking at numbers 25-16 of the point and combo guards in the junior class.
25) Landen Conrad Landen Conrad 5'10" | PG Loudoun Valley | 2024 State VA | 5’10” PG | Loudoun Valley (#86 Overall)
Conrad is part of a talented backcourt at Loudoun Valley, and he is one of the craftiest and skilled guards you’ll come across. The 5’10” lead guard is an excellent on ball defender with quick hands and moves his feet well to stay in front, he has a quick first step and is shifty off the bounce to get in the lane and is a crafty finisher and he shoots the ball very well from deep too.
24) Shaun Farmer Shaun Farmer 5'11" | PG Hylton | 2024 State VA | 5’11” PG | Hylton (#85 Overall)
Farmer is another emerging guard in the NOVA area who is a natural athlete and plays much bigger than his size would indicate. He covers a lot of ground with his dribbles and gets in the lane at will, he works well off the ball using screens to cut and get open and when he gets downhill he’s an excellent finisher and he’s an athletic playmaker defensively who rebounds well for his position too.
23) Ke’Juan Richburg Ke’Juan Richburg 5'7" | PG Fairfax Christian | 2024 State VA | 5’8” PG | Fairfax Christian (#82 Overall)
Richburg transferred to Fairfax Christian and was a big reason the Cardinals were able to capture yet another VISAA D3 State Championship. The 5’8” guard may be small in stature but he makes a big impact as he’s lightning quick on both ends of the floor, he makes great reads and makes others on his team better and he can create and make shots from deep and in the midrange.
22) Jason Penn Jason Penn 6'2" | PG Marshall | 2024 State VA | 6’2” PG | Madison (#81 Overall)
Penn is another lead guard that does a little bit of everything to make his team better, and he’s a natural floor general as well. At 6’2” he’s a shifty and quick guard who can touch the paint and makes great reads in the pick-and-roll, he has an excellent middle game and a crafty finishing package over taller defenders and he’s a good on ball defender who makes ball handlers uncomfortable.
21) Brayden Thorne Brayden Thorne 6'1" | PG Catholic | 2024 State VA | 6’1” PG | Catholic (#80 Overall)
Thorne is the type of player who makes a big impact in ways that don’t always show up in the scorebook, but he also has the ability to take over games as well. The Catholic floor general is a rock at the lead guard spot as he handles pressure and gets his team into sets, he can create for himself and others effortlessly off the bounce and he can make shots from all over and get hot quickly without being a black hole offensively.
20) Cameron Mise Cameron Mise 5'11" | PG Hopewell | 2024 State VA | 5’11” PG | Hopewell (#79 Overall)
Mise has had a fantastic high school career so far starting all three seasons at Hopewell and making deep tournament runs behind his gutsy play. He’s a tough kid who lives to hoop and will attack the rim fearlessly and gets back up every time he’s knocked down. He shoots the ball well from deep, he’s shifty off the bounce and he makes plays in transition and within their half court sets.
19) Dezmond Hopkins Dezmond Hopkins 6'0" | CG Patriot | 2024 State VA | 6’1” CG | Patriot (#78 Overall)
Hopkins has been one of the best guards on one of the best teams in the NOVA area over the past few years, and his ability to impact the game in different ways can’t be understated. He’s a talented scoring guard who can get downhill and use his strength to finish, he makes shots efficiently from multiple levels and he’s a team player who is unselfish and makes plays defensively too.
18) Jamari Hodnett Jamari Hodnett 6'2" | PG Bishop Ireton | 2024 State VA | 6’2” PG | Bishop Ireton (#68 Overall)
Hodnett is a very similar guard who impacts the game across the board in ways that don’t always show up in the scorebook but show up on the scoreboard. The 6’2” guard is a very good defender with long arms that moves his feet well, he’s an unselfish playmaker who makes the right plays over and over again and he picks his spots and scores it efficiently when he needs to.
17) Jason Clarke Jason Clarke 6'1" | PG Miller School | 2024 State VA | 6’1” PG | Word of Life (#66 Overall)
Clarke could be moving way up this list in the next few updates, as the 6’1” PG had a breakout junior season and is continuing that on the EYBL with Boo Williams this summer. He’s a very talented guard who scores it in bunches and is one of the top shooters on the EYBL right now. He has a quick release and effortless range both off the catch and off the bounce, he can attack closeouts and is a good playmaker and finisher in the midrange and he can takeover games when his team needs him too.
16) Demeir Pollard Demeir Pollard 6'2" | CG Landstown | 2024 State VA | 6’2” CG | Landstown (#59 Overall)
Pollard was a big reason for Landstown’s success this past season and did a great job running the show and bringing their young talent along throughout the season. The 6’2” combo guard is a tough nosed competitor on both ends of the floor, he can score it off the bounce from multiple levels and he is an unselfish leader who will do the dirty work and whatever it takes to win.
