CBG Tip-Off Preview: 17U (Part 2)

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The CBG Tip-Off takes place this Saturday at Rock It Sports in Richmond, and it looks like one of the top pre-live period events with a loaded field of both shoe company and independent teams. The 6'5” wing is an all-around talent who has a strong frame and uses that frame to rebound and defend against bigger players, he's a talented scorer who is a knock down shooter off the catch and can create for himself and others off the bounce and he has a knack for coming up big against the best of the best.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Eli Delaurier | 6'8” PF | Team Loaded VA</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1585825,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/09/Delaurier-Eli-scaled.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/09/Delaurier-Eli-scaled.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1585825" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Delaurier was one of the best juniors in all of VISAA this year helping his Miller School team to a state championship appearance before falling to Highland in heartbreaking fashion, and if he continues that momentum he should see his recruitment pick up big time. The 6'8” forward is a mismatch problem as he can post up and finishes well around the rim, he can pop on the perimeter where he can knock down shots and is a good passer, he runs the floor hard and can play above the rim and he competes defensively both in the paint and when he has to switch.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1489081' first='Jason' last='Penn'] | 6'1” PG | NOVA Cavs</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1478575,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/06/Penn-Jason.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/06/Penn-Jason.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1478575" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>When it comes to floor generals, you won't find many that are as good as Penn in the DMV area as he can run the show and makes everyone better while doing it. The 6'1” guard has a command of the game as he plays with good pace and changes speeds well, he gets in the paint where he can finish at the rim and in the midrange while also being able to see the floor and make plays for others and he sets the tone defensively with his ability to guard the length of the floor.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1489084' first='Sean' last='Donovan'] | 6'6” PF | NOVA Cavs</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1465435,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/05/Donovan-Sean-Head-Shot.png"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/05/Donovan-Sean-Head-Shot.png?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1465435" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Donovan is coming off of a big season at WT Woodson where he established himself as one of the top big men in the NOVA area, and he's a nice addition to an already talented NOVA Cavs team. The 6'6” big man has good touch around the rim with an array of post moves at his disposal, he can run the floor and rebounds well on both ends and he can stretch the floor to the three-point line too.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>MJ Winstead | 6'1” PG | Local Legends</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Winstead had a breakout year at Benedictine this season, and he's emerging as one of the better guards in the Richmond area. As the go-to guy he was able to showcase his quickness and shifty ability off the bounce, he knocks down shots from deep at a high clip and he's a capable playmaker and defender as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1948395' first='Javon' last='Brooks'] | 6'3” CG | Team Richmond</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Brooks had a great year for Carmel School helping to lead them to the VISAA Semifinals, and he could be a breakout guy on the HGSL Circuit with Team Richmond this year. At 6'3” he has a good frame and a lot of ability off the bounce to get downhill and finish, he can move off the ball where he can catch and shoot or catch and rip and he brings good energy defensively and on the glass.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
