Delaware Hayes was led by superstar Landon Vanderwalker who finished with 29 points and 22 rebounds. I wanted to spotlight a new player from their team who had his best game of the three I’ve seen this season and that’s

. Griggs knocked down a pair of triples off Vanderwalker offensive rebounds and does a great job of moving without the basketball. On cuts Griggs found openings and scored a couple of times on the baseline. Add in his timely shooting and it was a strong performance by a complimentary piece in a big time environment.

When I first started watching the Delaware Hayes game I literally didn’t recognize Griggs on the court. He’s done a great job with his body by slimming down and looks like a much better athlete just walking around. I’ve always been impressed by how Griggs does the little things on the court by making the extra pass, diving after loose balls and being efficient as a scorer. Griggs did all those things on Sunday with a DHO 3-pointer, a couple layups at the rim and a few free throws. Really impressed by how Griggs has clearly taken the weight room seriously this fall and helped transform his body.

I just like the way Griggs competes on the court. In the semifinals, Griggs was in attack mode consistently and looking to either score or set up his teammates. Griggs did a nice job of attacking closeouts and either finishing at the rim or kicking it back out to a shooter. Playing with a ton of talent on Delaware Hayes has also improved his off-ball movement ability which allowed him to score off cuts and leak out in transition. Really valuable glue piece for any team.

Griggs is a straight bucket-getter. He had multiple tough contested finishes and anytime his team needed a bucket they gave him the ball. He gets to the rim with ease and does a good job of dictating contact. He handles the ball well and can break you down.

Delaware Hayes is once again projected to be one of the top teams in central Ohio and Griggs should be a key glue guy for their team. Making winning plays without scoring can help you get on the court and Griggs did that in the fall league action. Defensively, Griggs jumped a few passing lanes, talked to his teammates and got after loose balls. Offensively, Griggs knocked down a pick and pop 3-pointer, hit a couple floaters and had a clutch free throw with two seconds left to win the game.

In a game that featured a ton of upperclassmen talent, it was the Sophomores who stole the show for Delaware Hayes. An impressive shooter with good touch, Griggs got the friendly roll on a key 3-pointer to extend the Pacers lead. A scrappy guard, Griggs also had a key and-1 layup after an offensive rebound. Just knows how to play, Griggs won’t blow by you with his speed or dominate the ball as a facilitator, but his basketball IQ and toughness makes him a valuable piece to one of the top teams in Columbus.
