We have made it through over three months of regular season action and now culminate with a win-or-go-home state tournament. Here at Prep Hoops Indiana our staff will be previewing all 64 sectionals around the state over the next several days. Let’s take a broader look at the sectional draws in Class 4A.
Most Intriguing Sectional – Sectional 8 @ Carmel
With all due respect to Sectional 10, Sectional 8 has taken its place as the best in the state of Indiana. On Tuesday night alone you will get a heavyweight first round matchup between 15-7 Carmel and 15-7 Westfield. Then, a Mudsock rivalry rematch featuring superstar sophomore Jalen Haralson Jalen Haralson 6'7" | PG La Lumiere | 2025 #8 Nation IN will tip-off. 17-6 Noblesville and 14-8 Zionsville will await the winners of those two games in the semifinals. Aside from Hamilton Southeastern, the other five teams in this sectional are above .500 and have spent time inside of the Class 4A Top 10 at different points in the season. Whoever can make it through the meat grinder will immediately become a legitimate state title contender.
State Title Favorite – Ben Davis
What can you say that hasn’t already been said about Ben Davis at this point? The Giants finished off a perfect 26-0 regular season against an excellent schedule. Valparaiso commit Zane Doughty Zane Doughty 6'8" | C Ben Davis | 2023 State IN is the anchor of what they do on both ends of the floor averaging a team-leading 13.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game. However, the Giants success has been a story of balance and depth. Six more Ben Davis players average over five points per game led by senior guard duo of Sheridan Sharp Sheridan Sharp 6'2" | PG Ben Davis | 2023 State IN (Nicholls State) and Clay Butler Clay Butler 6'1" | PG Ben Davis | 2023 State IN (Lincoln). The Giants will open sectional play against a talented Southport team. Wednesday night will begin their journey to history as they are six wins away from finishing off an undefeated season.
Best First Round Matchup – Anderson (19-4) vs. Greenfield-Central (21-1)
Sectional 8 and Sectional 10 get a lot of the statewide attention, but Sectional 9 at Muncie Central is awfully good in its own right this year. There are two 20-win teams and four more that won at least 14 games during the regular season. Wednesday night will feature an excellent first round matchup between 19-4 Anderson and Class 4A #10 Greenfield-Central who enters with a 21-1 record. Watching two of the top scorers in the state battle it out between Ahmere Carson Ahmere Carson 6'2" | PG Anderson | 2023 State IN and Marian signee Dylan Moles Dylan Moles 6'3" | PG Greenfield-Central | 2023 State IN will be worth the price of admission. Whichever team wins is hardly out of the woods in terms of cutting down the nets in Sectional 9, but it will certainly be an impressive victory.
