SUBSTATE 1 CHAMPION – ST. MARY’S
Seventh-ranked Remsen St. Mary’s (22-2) advanced to the state tournament with a 49-38 victory against Gehlen Catholic Saturday night at Le Mars Community. The Hawks won for the 10th time in a row, their last loss coming on Jan. 26 at 2A No. 5 Hull Western Christian. They reached Des Moines for the seventh consecutive year.
Senior Cael Ortmann Cael Ortmann 6'2" | SF St. Mary's, Remsen | 2023 State IA led the winners with 14 points, while teammates Alex Schroeder (10) and Jaxon Bunkers Jaxon Bunkers 5'11" | SF St. Mary's, Remsen | 2023 State IA (9) also helped the cause in a low-scoring contest.
Keaton Bonderson scored 12 points for Jays, 11 below his average.
SUBSTATE 2 CHAMPION – DUNKERTON
No. 6 Dunkerton (24-1) moved on with a 68-64 win against Newman Catholic (20-5) Saturday night at Hampton-Dumont. The Raiders reached the state tournament for the fifth time in school history with titles coming in 1933 and 2004.
Senior forward Preston Gillespie Preston Gillespie 6'3" | SF Dunkerton | 2023 State IA led Dunkerton with 19 points. The Knights got 19 points from senior forward Noah Hamilton.
SUBSTATE 3 CHAMPION – NORTH LINN
Second-ranked North Linn (24-0) impressed with a 72-51 triumph against Wapsie Valley (20-5) Saturday night at West Delaware. Like St. Mary’s, the Lynx clinched a state bid for the seventh year in a row.
Senior forward Tate Haughenbury Tate Haughenbury 6'5" | PF North Linn | 2023 State IA led the victors with 20 points. Ben Wheatley Ben Wheatley 6'1" | SG North Linn | 2023 State IA (17), Breckyn Betenbender Breckyn Betenbender 5'10" | PG North Linn | 2024 State IA (14) and Mason Bechen Mason Bechen 6'1" | PG North Linn | 2025 State IA (11) also scored in double figures for North Linn.
Senior guard Andrew Westpfahl Andrew Westpfahl 5'8" | SG Wapsie Valley | 2023 State IA paced the Warriors with 16 points, while teammate Mason Harter Mason Harter 6'6" | PF Wapsie Valley | 2023 State IA scored 15 and pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds.
SUBSTATE 4 CHAMPION – NEW LONDON
Unranked New London (19-6) edged Marquette Catholic (22-4), 70-69, Saturday night at Solon. The Tigers clinched their second-ever trip to Des Moines (’17).
Kaden Benjamin poured in 27 points and Blaise Porter Blaise Porter 6'1" | PG New London | 2023 State #298 Nation IA netted 26 for the winners. Evan Scott tallied 23 points for Marquette, who also received 11 from Caden Kettmann Caden Kettmann 6'4" | SG Marquette Catholic Bellevue | 2024 State IA .
SUBSTATE 5 CHAMPION – MADRID
No. 9 Madrid (22-2) upended Baxter (20-2-1), 70-54, Saturday at Nodaway Valley for its first-ever state tournament appearance. Toryn Severson Toryn Severson 6'4" | SG Madrid | 2025 State IA scored 22 points and grabbed four rebounds for the Tigers, who also received 14 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks from Jackson Newell Jackson Newell 6'8" | C Madrid | 2023 IA .
Cody Damman scored 13 points and Cael Shepley added 10 for the eighth-ranked Bolts.
SUBSTATE 6 CHAMPION – GLADBROOK-REINBECK
Third-ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck (23-2) slipped by Lynnville-Sully (22-3), 56-53, Saturday night in Marshalltown. Senior William Kiburis William Kiburis 6'4" | PG Gladbrook-Reinbeck | 2023 State IA rang up 27 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, handed out three assists and swiped two steals for the Rebels. Isaac Clark (13 points), Caleb Egesdal Caleb Egesdal 5'10" | SG Gladbrook-Reinbeck | 2023 State IA (6 points, 4 rebounds) and Drew Eilers Drew Eilers 6'3" | PF Gladbrook-Reinbeck | 2025 State IA (10 rebounds, 2 assists) also contributed to the win.
Preston Rodibaugh Preston Rodibaugh 6'3" | SG Lynnville-Sully | 2023 State IA (15 points) and Corder Noun Harder Corder Noun Harder 5'9" | PG Lynnville-Sully | 2024 State IA (14) led the Hawks in scoring.
SUBSTATE 7 CHAMPION – GRAND VIEW CHRISTIAN
Top-ranked Grand View Christian (24-0) served notice Saturday night at Dallas-Center Grimes with a 106-47 victory against ACGC. The Thunder led 51-26 at halftime and never looked back.
Brock Littler Brock Littler 5'8" | PG ACGC | 2023 State IA and Jathan South each scored 10 points for ACGC (16-9). Josh Sanderson Josh Sanderson 5'10" | PG Grand View Christian | 2023 State IA has averaged 20.1 points this season for Grand View Christian, while Daniel Tobiloba Daniel Tobiloba 7'0" | C Grand View Christian | 2023 State IA has contributed 13.0 points and 13.1 rebounds a contest.
SUBSTATE 8 CHAMPION – WEST HARRISON
No. 4 West Harrison (23-1) advanced with a 56-40 victory against Bedford (21-4) Saturday night at Glenwood. The Hawkeyes reached the state tournament for a second year in a row.
Sage Evans Sage Evans 6'2" | PF West Harrison | 2023 State IA scored 18 points and ripped down 22 rebounds, while teammate Mason King Mason King 5'10" | PG West Harrison | 2023 State IA added 15 points and six assists for the winners.
