Prep Hoops Missouri takes a look at some of the top guards/wings from last week's Southern Boone Tournament in Mid-Missouri. Battle won the championship of the tournament with a victory over Fort Zumwalt South.

[player_tooltip player_id='1430519' first='Tate' last='McCubbin'] (Battle): I watched the talented 6'7" 2024 wing guard in the semifinals and he was cooking in the Spartans victory over Kirksville. He displayed his smooth shooting stroke from 3-point range as he drained several triples. He was moving without the ball and coming off screens for the open jumper. He was also a matchup problem with his height as he went inside and attacked the offensive boards for easy putbacks.

********

[player_tooltip player_id='1161289' first='Isaac' last='Danielson'] (Kirksville): The 6'2" 2023 point guard is a poised floor leader who can distribute the ball and get buckets from all three levels. He can get the rebound and go coast to coast for the layup. He runs the pick and roll well where he can score from all three levels. He will hit the 3-pointer if the defender goes underneath or he can get downhill and elevate for the mid-range jumper.

********

[player_tooltip player_id='1424414' first='Vernell' last='Holt jr'] (Battle): A 5'9" 2025 point guard who is an excellent floor general with good quickness and scoring ability. He has a quick first step and a burst to beat defenders into the lane to unleash a nice floater. He hit a couple of open 3-pointers from the head of the key. He plays with excellent pace, but he can keep things under control with his high basketball IQ.

********

[player_tooltip player_id='1440500' first='Blake' last='Struemph'] (Fort Zumwalt South): The 6'3" 2023 wing scored a game-high 23 points in the Bulldogs' victory over Southern Boone. His ability to knock down the 3-pointer is well established and he did so in this game. But he has really diversified his game where he can score in multiple ways. He has a nice jump stop in the lane to finish inside with strength. He goes at his own speed, which is very effective. I also like how he can set screens to get himself open in the flow of the offense.

*******

[player_tooltip player_id='1169166' first='Tay' last='Patrick'] (Battle): A 5'9" 2023 point guard who can excel with the ball or playing off the ball from the wing with equal effectiveness. He has great speed in the open court and he can finish in the lane against bigger defenders with his athleticism and good body control. He can create offense off the dribble. He has a smooth step=back jumper off the bounce.

********

Carter Salter (Southern Boone): A 2023 point guard who was one of the most impressive passers that I watched during the tournament. He had good ball toughness with his handles and he could drop dimes from a variety of angles on the court. He could thread the needle with a bullet pass through a zone defense to a teammate for a layup. He was also making very accurate passes on the move for easy buckets.

********

Troy Anderson (Warrenton): A 6'2" 2024 guard who scored 24 points in a victory over Booneville in the game that I watched. He's a well-rounded offensive player wo can excel with and without the ball. He knocked down a couple of jumpers from well-beyond the 3-point line. He attacked the basket and got buckets on the drive through contact and he read defenses well to score on back-door cuts.

*********

[player_tooltip player_id='1606856' first='Jackson' last='Johns'] (Boonville): A 6'3" 2023 wing who has a versatile offensive game. He attacked the basket well to score with either hand at the rim. He could drain the 3-pointer, then set up a defender with a pump fake, which leads to a nice one-dribble pull up jumper. He was also getting work done on the offensive boards, where he was able to get putbacks.
