Prospect Spotlight: Bodie Eberhart (2019)
Following a breakout season with Marysville High School, 6’2” combo guard Bodie Eberhart (2019) is looking to build on that momentum this summer with OH-NOVA Bennett.
“Yeah I averaged like 14 or 15 a game, probably like 4 boards and 3 or 4 assists,” Eberhart told Prep Hoops Ohio.
While this is obviously an impressive stat-line, especially for a sophomore, Eberhart is still yet to receive any recruitment.
“No not yet,” was Eberhart’s simple response when we asked if he had heard from any colleges.
There’s still plenty of time to change his situation as far as that goes, as many coaches are still filling spots in the 2017 class right now. In the meantime, Eberhart is trying to improve on both sides of the ball.
“I need to work on on-ball guarding. I can guard pretty well but there are some guards who I can’t stay in front of because they’re quicker than me. I think my lateral quickness needs improvement. And then probably just outside shooting overall. I have good mid-range but outside the three-point arch, that needs improvement,” Eberhart said.
Eberhart is also a talented baseball player, meaning he’s in season with that also. The multi-sport prospect is also considering making a return to football next season. Regardless, he assured us that basketball is his favorite sport.
“I’m playing baseball this summer. All the way until freshman year I played football. I took a year off to focus on basketball because I knew I’d be a varsity starter. So I wanted to work on my craft a little bit. Then, next year, my junior year, I’m thinking about playing football again.”
“Basketball has been my favorite sport my whole life,” Eberhart told us.
During that young lifetime, Eberhart has felt a bit out of position. A couple weeks back in Indianapolis, we saw Eberhart moving off-ball quite well, looking like a true shooting guard. He was curling off other players and finding opportunities for cuts toward the rim. Having not seen a Marysville game last season, we figured Eberhart always came off the ball, because of his activity without the rock.
However, as he told us, he’s always been asked to be the point guard.
“On my high school team, I’m the primary ball-handler normally. The ball is always in my hand, like majority of the game. I’m the first-option scorer and stuff. And then my role in AAU, I become more of two or a three, sort of an off-guard.”
“I’ve always had to be the point guard. Since I’ve always been the best ball-handler and been able to get the ball up the court. I feel like since I was younger, I’ve always been stuck in that position. I feel like I’ve been more of a 2, because of my ability to score,” Eberhart said.
It will be interesting to see how Eberhart’s recruitment and positoinal role progresses over the next few seasons. He’s a high-IQ and talented player, who currently carries a 3.8 GPA and 22 ACT score. As mentioned, folks can watch him in action with OH-NOVA Bennett the rest of the grassroots year.
