It was also private vs public. The host Serra Padres secured a 61-49 victory over Half Moon Bay. Here are some player notes from this game.
TWO 2024 PROSPECTS WITH DI POTENTIAL ON THE COURT:
Ryan Pettis Ryan Pettis 6'2" | CG Serra | 2024 State CA-N 6’4 2024 Guard from Serra. He’s in a comfort zone playing with this Serra team. He showed his combo guard skills throughout the game. He’s an exceptional passer with vision. He makes the long strong pass up and across the court, the no look, and the dump off in the post. He has a variety of ways to get a bucket, 3’s, paint jumpers. His up close lateral movement on defense was notable. 16pts, 3stls, one led to a transition dunk.
Jaeden Hutchins Jaeden Hutchins 6'8" | PF Prolific Prep | 2024 State CA-N 6’7 2024 Forward Half Moon Bay. He has steadily improving his skill set for the forward position. He’s attracting double teams in the post. He’s stronger, and determined to score over anybody under 6’6. He’s added a 3ptr from the top. He’s more aggressiveness on the defensive side, going after blocks, and securing rebounds. He could be a double double guy at this level. He had 16pts, 6rebs, 3blks.
GOOD ALL-AROUND PERFORMANCE:
Aidan Carlsen Aidan Carlsen 6'2" | SF Serra | 2023 State CA-N 6’2 2023 G/W from Serra. We have noted him for being one of the better defenders in NorCal. He’s a more versatile prospect when playing with the Padres. He’s aggressively looking to take advantage of his scoring opportunities when they come. At 6’2 he’s a good strong rebounder. He showed decent handles pushing the ball up court, passing, and attacking the paint when he found an openings. 14pts, 3stls.
GOOD OFF THE BENCH:
Marcel Elicagaray 6’2 2023 Guard from Serra. He was active on both sides of the court playing good hard defense, hustling after loose balls, running the court in transition, and passing it up for transition buckets. He had good cuts, and movements toward the basket. We think he might be a reliable threat from behind the line. He spots up well looking to hit one. He hit two 3’s in the second qtr, when needed. He had 9pts, 2stls.
FRESHMEN CONTRIBUTORS:
Gio Garduno Martin Gio Garduno Martin 6'2" | CG Half Moon Bay | 2026 State CA-N 6’1 2026 Guard from Half Moon Bay. He was a starter who played a good overall game. It was our first look at the 2026 guard who played with calmness, and confidence. He has a good set of skills. His passing stood out, he made nice post entry passes, found cutters to the basket. He handled a bit in the open court, and spotted up in the corner showing us he could hit the 3ptr.
Caiden Guevara Caiden Guevara 6'0" | CG Half Moon Bay | 2026 CA-N 6’0 2026 G/F from Half Moon Bay. He’s a hard nosed prospect who comes off the bench scrappin’ for the ball. He was first to floor for loose ones, he got a few before it could go out of bounds to keep possessions live. At 6’0 he was aggressive putting his body on the line going for rebounds. He took care of the ball, made good passes.
NEWCOMERS:
Dom Faenzi 5’8 2024 CG from Half Moon Bay. He’s a slick, and quick ball handling guard. He’s fast pushing the ball up court in transition. He showed his handles, and quick first step to get by defenders from the outside, and into the paint for floaters, paint jumpers or a dump off. He’s a pass first point guard with good vision, and a mid-range jumper off the dribble.
Dio Lucido 5’10 2023 PG from Half Moon Bay. He’s a good handling guard with good speed that tries to take advantage of openings in transition or along the perimeter. He shows the ability to run the point, with good passing and the ability to penetrate from the top. He scored 9pts. He has good foot speed to stay on ball.
Angelo Ghattas 6’4 2024 G/F from Serra. He’s a solid body, kind of a glue guy. He didn’t stuff the stat box, but he did make his presence felt on the defensive side of the ball, helping to defend Hutchins, and going after rebounds in the post area. He scored 6pts, going up strong off two feet in the paint. He’s the tallest player on the Serra roster, he’ll be counted on to help defend the post.
