Metro Christian is one of the favorites to capture the Class 3A state championship and while their headliners might be in the 2024 class, don’t overlook senior guard Mario Darrington Mario Darrington 6'1" | PG Metro Christian | 2023 State OK when it comes to shining bright in March. Darrington has been outstanding every time we’ve seen him in person, which has been a handful of times this season. Even in a loss on the road to Holland Hall, Darrington could not be stopped and was their leading scorer. He is so explosive on the floor and is lightning quick with the basketball in his hands. He’s definitely a late bloomer in terms of being a basketball prospect but he can help a program at the next level. He’s an absolute athlete and has a jumper that is incredibly smooth. The defense continues to improve and he’s becoming an interesting guard prospect to watch.

The other senior standout on Monday night was guard Mario Darrington Mario Darrington 6'1" | PG Metro Christian | 2023 State OK . I knew Darrington more from his playing time with Metro’s football team as a wide receiver who could beat defenses over the top. But on Monday night, Darrington was an athletic guard who could jump out of the gym but also showcased a nice jump shot. Granted, it felt like the Patriots couldn’t miss anything from the floor and they put a lot of stress on the Victory defense. But Darrington still had a strong showing on both ends of the floor. If Metro Christian makes a run to the Big House in March, it’s going to be because of plays made by players like Darrington. He might not ever lead the team in scoring but he does so many other things well that it will be important in the biggest games of the year.
