Week 1 Rankings Update
After an eventful opening week of action around the state, it's time to update the rankings across all four classes.
In Class 1A, the top five schools held strong, headlined by top-ranked North Linn (2-0), who won their top games by an average of 63.5 points. Following a loss by then-sixth ranked Madrid, ACGC (2-0), Dunkerton (2-0), Newman Catholic (2-0), and North Mahaska (2-0) each moved up a spot to 6-9, respectively. State qualifier Bellevue (3-0) enters the rankings this week following a strong 3-0 start.
The top five schools also remained the same in Class 2A, with Monticello (2-0) leading the charge, followed by Roland-Story (2-0), Central Lyon (2-0), Western Christian (1-0), and Aplington-Parkersburg (2-0). There were no newcomers to the rankings, although Treynor (1-1) fell from sixth to ninth following their loss to 3A Heelan.
Class 3A is always tipsy-turvy, and that remains the same one week into the year. Xavier (2-0) takes over the top spot, elevating themselves two spots after a solid opening week and losses by Hoover (1-1) and Wahlert (0-1), who fall to third and sixth, respectively. Davenport Assumption (1-0) enters the rankings this week, coming in fourth following their win over Wahlert.
Waukee Northwest (2-0), Waukee (3-0), and Kennedy (2-0) firmly established themselves as the top three teams in Class 4A with dominant opening weeks. Northwest and Waukee will meet up on Tuesday evening in the first of two meetings between the pair of powers. Valley (1-1) stays steady at four, with their loss coming to Northwest, which will not be penalized. Three newcomers enter the rankings this week in Iowa City Liberty (1-0), Ankeny Centennial (2-0), and Burlington (3-0), who come in 8-10.
