Six Feet
In the Class of 2024, six of the top 18 point guards are sub-6’0″. And three, Jett Montgomery Jett Montgomery 6'1" | PG Independence | 2024 State TN , Tyler Tanner Tyler Tanner 6'1" | PG Brentwood Academy | 2024 State #133 Nation TN , Xavier Herron Xavier Herron 6'0" | PG Hillcrest | 2024 State TN ) are right at the line of demarcation. Tyler Tanner Tyler Tanner 6'1" | PG Brentwood Academy | 2024 State #133 Nation TN and Jett Montgomery Jett Montgomery 6'1" | PG Independence | 2024 State TN do so many things well at 6’0″. Tanner is as crafty as they come, consistently carving up defenses with his dribble. Jett was the leading scorer for Independence High last winter and will surely be for the next two seasons, as well.
In order to be a dynamic “sub-6” college point guard a hooper must be elite in one these three facets: explosion (vertical/horizontal), shooting, strength. Playing as a shorter guard is tough, but not impossible at the high school level. Many do it well, including Emerson Tenner Jr. Emerson Tenner Jr. 5'11" | PG Cordova | 2024 State #265 Nation TN , Kody Hickerson Kody Hickerson 5'11" | PG Bartlett | 2024 State TN , Bryson Andrews Bryson Andrews 6'0" | PG Hamilton Heights | 2024 State TN , Karl Burroughs, A.J. Morman, and Jordan Allen Jordan Allen 5'10" | PG Hillcrest | 2024 State TN .
Rising Up the Ranks
Fred Bailey Fred Bailey 6'1" | PG JPII | 2024 State TN (Pope Prep) earned @PrepHoopsTN Mr. November, making a strong argument to be a Top 3 point guard prospect in 2024, as opposed to his current #7 spot. Fred is such a non-flashy player that his productivity and poise get lost on me specifically. Bailey is a jack-of-all-trades. Further, he draws fouls at an elite level and makes many free throws.
Grady Robertson Grady Robertson 6'4" | PG William Blount | 2024 State TN (William Blount) delivered a fantastic performance mid-October at the PrepHoopsTN Combine.
Karl Burroughs, long respected, vaulted up approximately 50 spots after his strong showing mid-September at the PrepHoops Expo. Burroughs is a blur with the basketball and also physically strong. His maligned outside shooting keeps him from a top 10 spot in the point guard rankings.

Tacarey Monday Tacarey Monday 6'0" | PG Clarksville Northwest | 2024 State TN needs to cut down on his turnovers a little bit, but the athleticism and speed is there. Bradley Stewart Bradley Stewart 6'2" | PG Independence | 2024 State TN is a guy that we looked at just this week, after the 2024 rankings were released. He plays with great shooting “posture”. Everything he does is efficient and sharp. Great shooter off-the-dribble. Maybe a college combo guard?
