After reaching the 1,000 point milestone earlier in the week, Sandi continued his momentum with strong games against Riviera Prep and Westminster Academy. The American University signee averaged 17.5 points and 5 assists for the Raiders who split their two games. Sandi is the consummate floor general and plays with a toughness that should lead to a deep postseason run again this season for St. Thomas Aquinas.

One of the top guards in the state, Sandi, impresses me each and every time I see him play. He is a strong guard with elite handles, who always seems to make the right decision. He can score from just about anywhere on the court, but doesn’t force his shot. Sandi is a tough, gritty defender who won’t back down from any assignment.

DJ Sandi, the coach’s son, also scored 12 point in the game. Another guard, who in this case was an extension of his father and coach on the floor, running plays effectively, finding open teammates, and impacting the game in all the little ways that helped his team come out with a victory. He has an ability to just let the game come to him, has a sneaky first separation step, and seeks out contact on his drives showing a confidence in his game that permeated the entire team and had everyone in the gym believing in a Raiders win on their homecourt.

Sandi is an extremely smart PG who likes to play with the ball in his hands and facilitate the offense. He has a quick first step where he can beat you off the dribble and get to the hoop, but also has the ability to find the open man and get his team the best shot possible. He is a strong, tough guard who rebounds the ball very well and likes to push it up the floor and get out and run. He is very active on the defensive end and has a real knack for turning defense into offense. Sandi looks to help lead his St. Thomas Aquinas squad deep into postseason play here in 2025.

The 6’2” guard showed a knack for tracking the ball defensively and really being a disruptor in passing lanes. Getting steals led to transition opportunities for himself and the team that they capitalized on frequently. He shot the ball extremely well and showed an ability to control the offense when needed also as a secondary ball-handler. Sandi could certainly be poised for a big upcoming season. Keep an eye on him.

I’ve seen Drake Sandi play twice this season and each time I have been impressed with his offensive skillset. Sandi can connect from the perimeter as well as finishing on the attack getting to the free throw line often. On the defensive side, he is very underrated when it comes to his footwork and his activity in the passing lanes where he uses his length to get tips and deflections. He currently holds an offer from Bethune-Cookman but expect the offer list to continue to grow as his high school career rolls on.

The 6-2 sophomore guard utilized his playmaking skills whether it was getting to the rim and getting to the line or his ability to create for his teammates. Sandi had a big second half where he lifted his team into a win over The Rock School. Sandi is a real deal prospect worth keeping tabs on for the next few years as he is drawing a ton of interest from mid-major programs.
