Continue ReadingThe BVC didn’t produce any deep postseason teams last year, but will certainly garner some attention with some talented players returning and a somewhat narrow list of contenders in the conference. See who I expect to impress below:
- Arlington– The Red Devils were competitive in the BVC last year and have the returning talent to again be a problem for opponents. The returning duo of Caden Russell (Jr) and Jake Vermillion (Sr) bring experience and skill that Arlington will need to claim an outright title in 2023.
- Liberty-Benton– The Eagles are returning one of the better players from a season ago in Cason Doolittle Cason Doolittle 6'2" | CG Liberty Benton | 2023 OH (Sr). The senior PG was an All-District finisher and orchestrated the Eagles offense during the year. Losing the next 2 contributors is tough to replace, but the conference seems a little down meaning Doolittle and his backcourt presence can give L-B the needed edge.
- McComb– The Panthers should be much improved in 2023 and could challenge within the conference. Grant Dishong (Sr) has been a leader for this group and now has a chance to expand his role further. The season could be a slow start as the football team has a chance to make a deep postseason run.
- Pandora-Gilboa– Last year’s BVC champs will drop but not super far. The Rockets will bring back one of their more impressive players in Aiden Harris Aiden Harris 6'3" | SG Pandora Gilboa | 2024 State OH (Jr) to be leaned on during this season. Unfortunately there is too much talent returning ahead of them to see Pandora defending their title.
- Rest of the conference– After #4 , it truly is hard to place the remaining teams. Van Buren was the best finisher of the remaining teams but doesn’t return the firepower needed to continue competing. Riverdale and North Baltimore are both losing their top guys and not knowing who all is also returning makes their outlook clouded. Vanlue might make the best case as they have back Jerome Kloepfer Jerome Kloepfer 6'3" | SG Vanlue | 2023 OH (Sr) who was 1st Team All-District last year. They could make some noise throughout the season. Arcadia and Cory-Rawson combined for 6 wins on the year in 2022 and neither return much production themselves.
