I was able to attend the Friday slate of games at St Bernard and here’s a look at some of the top point guards I saw.
1.
Jordan Burks

Burks was one of the best finishing wings at the event. He’s very active around the rim and moves incredibly well without the ball. He has good hands, always ready to catch a pass, and soars high over the defense finishing lobs. Does a good job lurking along the baseline and being in the dunker spot. He uses his length to sky high for rebounds and can crash the glass through traffic.
2.
Tyler Hunt

Hunt is one of the top wings in the City Section and he’s proven it at a few showcases I’ve seen him at within the past month. What stood out the most to me this time around was his activity defensively in the paint. He was matched up throughout the game with players bigger than him in the post but held his own and was able to poke balls loose and force some bad passes. He is consistent getting to the rim and finishing or drawing contact and getting to the free-throw line. Good footwork in the paint and is a good rebounder for a wing.
3. Donovan Cornelius – LACES 2024
Cornelius is a player I first saw during the summer and he stood out then as a good scoring wing. He’s quick in transition and he handles the ball well for a wing player. He’s comfortable creating his own shot and getting separation against the defense. In this particular game, his shot was off but the motions were all there. Consistent attacking off the dribble. Can knock down three-point shots off the catch.
4.
Anthony Ivey

– St Monica 2023
Ivey is a strong wing who can play some small ball four or five. He handles the ball in transition and is a strong finisher at the basket. He uses his size and strength to draw contact at the rim and get himself to the free-throw line. He’s a good rebounder who also uses his size to get and hold his position and rebound in traffic.
5 Marques Calcote – LA Premier Prep Black 2023
