Following heavy losses to graduation at Lake Mills, GHV enters the year as the team to beat in the division, and Britson is a major reason why. A talented three-level scoring guard who can get others involved at a high clip as well, he’ll do whatever is asked of him and is a great competitor.
First Team
2023 Drew Britson Drew Britson 6'1" | SG Garner-Hayfield-Ventura | 2023 State IA (Garner-Hayfield-Ventura): 16.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.4 steals
A talented combo guard who can score in bunches when needed or get his teammates involved, Britson is a high IQ player who can get to the rim for finishes, burn teams from deep, or get to the free-throw line. He’ll also compete hard on the glass on both ends of the floor, regardless of giving up a significant amount of size in most occasions.
2023 Rylan Barnes Rylan Barnes 6'3" | SF West Hancock | 2023 State IA (West Hancock): 14.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.3 steals, 1.5 blocks
A 6-3 do-it-all wing, Barnes led the Eagles in every major category as a junior. He impacts the game in a major way on both ends with his size, length, and talent. With four of the top five scorers returning, West Hancock could push GHV at the top of the division behind Barnes.
2023 Denton Kingland Denton Kingland 6'0" | SG Lake Mills | 2023 State IA (Lake Mills): 10.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.9 steals, 40.8 3P%
A rangy 6-4 wing who can really shoot it, Kingland will have a chance to take over the Bulldogs this season following the graduations of their top two scorers. He moves really well without the ball in his hands and has a quick release, but this season he’ll have a chance to really shine as a playmaker.
2024 Drake Canavan Drake Canavan 6'3" | PF Eagle Grove | 2024 State IA (Eagle Grove): 12.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.4 steals, 37.9 3P%
Eagle Grove won just two games last season but the 6-3 Canavan was a bright spot, leading the team in scoring, rebounding, and steals. He’s a talented shooter who buried 44 3-pointers at a very respectable 38% clip.
2023 Braden Boehnke (Garner-Hayfield-Ventura): 7.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.2 steals
A 6-0 guard who has firmly established himself as a reliable secondary ball-handler and playmaker, Boehnke will pair with Britson to give the Cardinals the best backcourt in the division.
