Budding Prospect Profile: 2024 Jude Hill
Six-foot-1 guard Jude Hill Jude Hill 6'1" | SG Destiny Christian | 2024 State OK out of Destiny Christian High School in Del City is a player that Prep Hoops took note of this summer and we think big things could be in store for him as he continues to work.
“Jude is a shooting specialist for Oklahoma Takeover 16U. Compact and quick release off catch and shoot opportunity, good and willing defender who plays defense with his feet and uses positioning to his advantage.”
That’s what our local scout in Oklahoma noted in April of last year and Hill continued his strong player for the Takeover in May and July.
“I feel my summer went well,” Hill told Prep Hoops. “Most of my summer consisted of work, working out, training, team camps, and AAU basketball.”
What were some things that stood out to Jude about the summer in terms of memorable highlights?
“1. ORU team camp I went to with my team back in June. It was a fun experience. We went 4-1 I believe against some good competition.
“2. Definitely getting in the weight room getting stronger and building my vertical.
“3. Lastly, the Las Vegas classic tournament my AAU team went to back in July. We didn’t do the best (we went 2-2) but it was still a fun and exciting experience.”
Next up, the junior season at Destiny Christian. Hill has big goals this winter and based on what we saw last summer, he is headed in the right direction.
“I believe we have a chance to be a great team this season and go head to head with some great competition. Personally I feel I’m a lot stronger from last season and I feel that’s going to enhance my game all around.
“My personal goals are to show more of my overall game. I want to average more assists this season. I’d like to get some exposure to college coaches, and build towards an offer. Lastly, get my first in game dunk!”
“As far as team goals: of course we want to be undefeated. We want to be known as being the tougher team. We wanna win big games like the Carl Albert tournament (I believe we came in 4th last year).”
We also asked Jude to describe himself as a player. Some kids can think way too highly of themselves but based on what we saw from Jude last season and how he described himself, it’s a pretty good match!
“I’m a all-around player,” Hill explained. “I can shoot, defend, get to the rim, facilitate, get teammates involved, encourage. However, I feel my strengths are definitely shooting; spot up or off the dribble, and also all-around defending.”
Jude also knows there are a lot of areas that he needs to grow as a player. He’s put together a strong schedule of continuing to work hard at improving his all around game.
“I usually workout at my local YMCA or I’ll workout in my driveway. I always get my game speed threes up at the 5 spots around the arc; off the catch and off the dribble. I do ball handling working on different combos and getting my handles tighter. I work on my finishes: strong two and one hand, reverse, floaters. Also for every finish I work on I work on a counter move for that finish.”
And Hill has a group of players that he likes to watch and pick up things from for those workouts!
“I admire Jimmy Butler and Kawhi Leonard,” Hill said. “I love how they play on both sides of the ball equally. I watch Buddy Hield to help my shooting footwork. And players like Trae young and Jalen Brunson for finishing around bigger players.”
Hill is entering his upperclassmen years so the next thing on the horizon is starting to hear from colleges. He’s just a junior so there a lot of time in front of him.
“I’m working hard and hoping to hear from (colleges) some this season.”
Based on what we saw this summer, those conversations will come soon enough!
