The shooting guard position - one of the most important positions in basketball. And, with the updated 2023 New England rankings being released this week, it's time we start examining the top players by position. You can find the complete, full 2023 rankings list by clicking here.

Clark, a Brewster Academy product, is the best shooting guard in the region. He's got excellent length and amazing shooting touch. It's clear that Clark's shooting ability is his best asset but he's got a lot more to his game than just shooting. He's a solid slasher and finisher, and he's active on the defensive end. He's truly an all-around player that can do a variety of things on the court. But, as I mentioned before, Clark's shooting is really special. He can shoot pull-up 3-pointers in transition, he can come off screens and set his feet for movement 3's, and he can shoot from deep off-the-dribble.

Clark's well-rounded, shooting-centric skillset makes him the best shooting guard in New England, and one of the better 2-guards in the entire country. Clark is going to have a massive year with Brewster Academy, and it wouldn't shock me if Clark's stock continues to rise.

Dubsky, who's heading to Rhode Island, is an elite offensive weapon. He's got excellent footwork for the position, and he's really good at finding creative ways to score the basketball. While he doesn't possess Clark of [player_tooltip player_id='1464578' first='Darin' last='Smith Jr.']'s length, Dubsky is someone that's extremely active defensively and effective offensively. He's an amazing spot up shooter. His shooting ability opens up the floor for himself and teammates, as Dubsky is a great passer for the position as well.

Dubsky's efficient, well-rounded game means he's going to be on this list as one of the better shooting guards in New England. He can do a lot with or without the basketball, and the Rhode Island-bound player is going to be a very solid collegiate prospect.

Loughnane is heading to Davidson, where he brings efficient jump-shooting ability and an all-around offensive skillset. He's a very efficient jumper shooter, and he shoots it with great mechanics and timing. After being named the MaxPreps Player of the Year, Loughnane is ready to make another leap with Davidson. He's a 6'3" guard with more than just solid shooting touch. He plays active defense, he gets his teammates involved, and he moves well without the basketball.

Loughnane is going to impress a ton of people at Davidson, and the fact that he's heading to such a well-renowned program combined with his talent-level makes him an easy lock for this list.

Smith Jr. is a lengthy, athletic shooting guard that's going to have a major year with Vermont Academy. As I previously mentioned before when discussing Smith Jr., he's got really great length. He's the tallest player on this list, and that length separates Smith Jr. from the rest. He uses this length to finish through contact, and he's got great athletic fluidity and flexibility that also allows him to finish well. Smith Jr. is an elite shooter, too. He's got excellent mechanics. He's excellent in transition, gliding around the court with ease thanks to his long strides.

I fully expect Smith Jr. to continue getting better, he's certainly going to climb up these rankings and positional rankings as well. There's a major chance that Smith Jr. finds himself as one of the better shooting guards not just in New England but in the country by the end of the high school season.

Bonilla is one of the hardest-working players in the class. It's clear that he's spent extensive time in the gym working on his craft. He's improved as a shooter, finisher, defender, and just in every area and category. He's an elite shooter, and he can shoot it from anywhere on the court. He can also finish among the best of them thanks to his flexibility and craftiness.

Bonilla is going to make a lot of noise up in Maine, as his work ethic and determination and drive will carry him to great heights. That mentality and skillset is going to make Bonilla a very strong player at the next level.
