Expert Analysis
Steve Quattrocchi | Prep Hoops Scout
One of the best small school players of the last few seasons, it would have been easy for Birney to transfer to a big school and get more attention but he stayed at Ballard Memorial and ended as the best player in school history. He should sign to play in college and be a good player wherever he attends.

Few players in the class have Birney’s scoring ability. He can finish around the basket, has a consistent mid-range jumper, and can shoot from distance off the dribble and catch. This season he averaged 25.9 ppg and collected his 2,000th career point. He also gathers rebounds at a high rate.

Staying in the first region, Birney is doing all he can to make Ballard Memorial competitive on a nightly basis. Jace is averaging 26 points per game, recently broke the school record for scoring and took a game visit to EKU. A big guard, Jace has to carry Ballard Memorial on a nightly basis and is primed for a big AAU season.

Birney is having a strong season while also having to do an extraordinary amount of work for his Ballard Memorial squad. Averaging 26 and 9 is impressive when you consider everyone in the first region knows where the ball is going on every possession.

Jace is one of the most consistent players in the 25 class. Every time I see him, it’s a camp setting and every time I leave impressed with his motor and fearlessness. Birney will do whatever his teams needs him to do to win. He’ll guard the post, he’ll run the point, he’ll rebound and he’ll take the big shot if needed. Just a good and versatile player all the way around.

Birney is another 2025 who is always consistent in his performance. You can count on Jace to score the ball at every level, rebound well and make good decisions with the ball. He’s not going to make a ton of mistakes and he won’t make the same one twice. Expect him to have a good day at camp Saturday.

is a pure scorer. He uses his 6’3 frame to his advantage and is very versatile. Birney joined the 1000 point club as a sophomore, so he isn’t new to putting the ball in the basket at a high level. Last season, he averaged 19.8 points a game and shot exceptionally well from the free throw line. At 85%, Birney’s free throw percentage was good enough for top 20 in the state.

One of those players that gets overlooked because of being in Western Kentucky and playing at a small school, Jace climbs 11 spots from 54th to 43rd this update. Birney is among the most valuable prospects to his team in the class as Ballard Memorial relies on him to do about everything for them. Moving forward, Jace should be on the radar for in state NAIAs and D2s.

Birney had a good weekend in Wilder, scoring in double figures each game. Supreme is a group that plays hard and Jace definitely did that in every game. He showed the ability to score the ball at all three levels and uses his big frame to attack the paint and finish through contact, often getting to the free throw line.
