Continue ReadingPrep Hoops Dakotas will be heading across the Red River on Sunday and we will make the way to Cobberland! We will be at Concordia for their Fall Development League. The action will be going down at the historic Memorial Auditorium and Olson Forum. The league takes place on September 11th, 18th, and 25th. Session 1 will happen from 2:15-4:00 (10th-12th graders). Session 2 will happen from 4:15-6:00 (6th-9th graders). I attended last year and it was a high-quality event. I can’t wait to get back in the gym!
In this article, we are taking a look at 15 players from both North Dakota & Minnesota. Look below for player information and why they made the list. I watched many of these players last high school season and this summer in AAU ball. I am excited to see how each player improved their skill and how size might have changed.
Arrison Throntveit Arrison Throntveit 6'3" | SG Fargo Davies | 2024 ND (2024) |6’3 G/F| Fago Davies
Why? He is an athlete with length and bounce. I watched him this summer in AAU and Arrison is a special athlete. He is intriguing as a defender. I expect him to look good slashing and he has a nice short pull-up. I want to see him in the skills. It will be interested to see his footwork, handles, and shooting. Where will Throntveit fit in with the Eagles this season?
Bode Hoeg Bode Hoeg 6'2" | PG Fargo North | 2024 ND (2024) |6’2 PG| Fargo North
Why? He comes from a basketball family and his dad is a coach, no question this kid knows basketball. I am interested to see what role he plays on Sunday. Will he be the primary ballhandler on his team and direct traffic? Or will Hoeg be a bit more aggressive and look for his shot? In the skill drills, I know Hoeg will be one of the best with ball skills. I am interested to see him shooting from deep off the bounce and catch. North will be loaded this year. I think Bode has a good chance to start game 1. Will he look like an EDC starting PG on Sunday?
Carsten Hoff (2025) |6’1 G| Moorhead
Why? He can shoot it and he is super skilled. I watched him this summer and he proved to be a young player that can run with the older talent. Hoff certainly has potential as a scorer. Sniper, smooth, and skilled are a few words to describe him.
Cole Holzer Cole Holzer 6'7" | PF Central Cass | 2024 State ND (2024) |6’6 F| Central Cass
Why? I expect him to be the best “stretch 4” in the gym on Sunday. He is a long lefty that can stroke the 3-ball and pick-n-pop with the best of them. Holzer is also skilled and crafty. I am interested to see how he looks size-wise. I watched him play on film this summer but have not seen him live, since the spring. I am interested to see if he floats on the perimeter or gets in the lane and plays physically. I have witnessed Holzer do both well. Cole will be one of the best in the gym on Sunday.
Colton Hagen Colton Hagen 6'4" | PG Moorhead | 2023 MN (2023) |6’4 G| Moorhead
Why? I saw him at the MSUM Elite Camp in August and he looked much better than I thought. He was getting above the rim and dunking in traffic. Hagen shot the ball tremendously well from 3-point land. He was also very effective at getting into the lane and making shots. Hagen should definitely be one of the top guards on Sunday. His size will give most opponents problems. I am interested if he can stand out and be a DUDE on Sunday.
Drew Overby (2023) |6’0 G| Thompson
Why? I watched him twice last season, once on film and once in person. I am excited to see him in the skill and shooting drills. I have heard reports that Drew is a nice shooter. When I saw him shoot last winter, his stroke looked smooth and soft from deep. Overby showed some great passes when I watched. The Tommies should be tough this winter and Drew will be a key element.
Eli Buhr Eli Buhr 6'2" | SG Central Cass | 2024 State ND (2024) |6’2 G| Central Cass
Why? Another shooter for the Squirrels! I am interested to see who the best shooter is for CC on Sunday. Buhr had a nice AAU season with ECI, he should come into Sunday with plenty of confidence. He standouts as a shooter but he is also a nice athlete. I will be interested if he only hangs out around the 3pt line or if he cuts/penetrates. Eli should be in the running for the top shooter on Sunday.
Jaxson Miller Jaxson Miller 5'9" | SG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2024 State ND (2024) | West Fargo Sheyenne
Why? He is a hard worker, no question about that. I watched Miller this summer and he has great ball skills and he looked good slashing and scoring. I know he will look great in the ballhandling. There is still time for the season to start, but I am interested to see what role Jaxson will play with Sheyenne this winter. There is no doubt this kid is a serious basketball player, but he is also known as “The Voice of the Mustangs”. Expect a great day from Miller at Concordia.
Karson Ouse Karson Ouse 6'8" | SF Kindred | 2025 State #283 Nation ND (2025) |6’5 SF| Kindred
Why? He is the #2 recruit in the ND 2025 Prospect Rankings. Ouse was a stud this summer in AAU ball with ND Phenom. Athleticism, skill, length, IQ, what more could you ask for? How will he look vs. the older talent? Karson will be one of the best on Sunday!
Mason Bosse Mason Bosse 6'0" | SG Central Cass | 2023 State ND (2023) |5’10 G| Central Cass
Why? He has all the tools and skills of a solid backcourt player. When he watched him last season, Bosse stood out as a shooter with a smooth stroke. Mason is an unselfish player that takes good shots. This kid is a savvy player. I am excited to see him from behind the arc, I will not be surprised if he is one of the top shooters on Sunday.
Presley Peraza Presley Peraza 6'6" | PF Kindred | 2025 State ND (2025) |6’4 PF| Kindred
Why? His play at this event last year shot his prospect ranking up the board. Peraza is a scary player with his length, strength, and explosion. The Viking took over games last fall and he looked like “the man” vs. seniors. Presley is fresh off a nice season in ND Phenom, he should put on a show this Sunday. Peraza will be one of the most splashy players in attendance on Sunday.
Ryan Hirst (2025) |6’2 G| Fergus Falls
Why? I have never watched him live but have heard nothing but great reports. Hirst is a nice athlete with a high ceiling when it comes to potential. This kid will work his tail off and I do not expect him to back down from the older players. How will he compare to the top upperclassmen? Keep a look out for this Otter.
Rylan Larson (2023) |6’0 G| Moorhead
Why? He had a solid summer with ECI. Larson should have no trouble getting into the lane for good looks. He is definitely a strong guard and a playmaker. I would expect him to be a solid perimeter defender. I am interested to see his ball skills and 3pt shooting in the skill drills.
Sam Kobbervig Sam Kobbervig 6'3" | SG Central Cass | 2023 State ND (2023) |6’3 SG| Central Cass
Why? A well-rounded athlete with size, strength, and mobility. Sam can get the job done on both ends of the floor. He shoots a very high percentage inside the arc. I know he can shoot it well from behind the arc as well. I am excited to see if he has the “killer instinct” on Sunday and try to take over games. He is a great team player, so he never really takes bad shots. Will he take over in the scrimmages? Kobbervig will be one of the top SG/wings in attendance.
Sam Senske Sam Senske 6'5" | SG Hawley | 2023 State MN (2023) |6’5 SF| Hawley
Why? He might be the best pure scorer in the gym on Sunday. Senske is a bucket waiting to happen. He can get it done from every level. Senske shoots over guards and uses his body well in the paint. Bigs can not stay with him when spacing the floor and attacking off the bounce. Sam is an unconscious shooter, you can not tell if he made 10 in a row or missed 10 in a row. I want to see him show off his athleticism as I have in the past. A few above-the-rim finishes would be nice. There is no doubt that his jumper and crafty scoring are deadly.
