Carter is a gym rat that stays in the gym working on his craft. Smart PG that has some potential to play at the next level. He will have an opportunity to help his team improve from a 7 win season last year. We caught up with Carter as he is our feature in this installment of Player Spotlights.

Is there some athletic background to you in your family, where you might get some of your playing ability and athleticism?
Yes, my Dad (Josh Funk) played college basketball and my mom also played college volleyball. My brother JJ Funk JJ Funk 6'7" | PF Skyline Prep | 2024 State AZ plays basketball at Skyline Prep in Phoenix, Arizona. JJ Funk JJ Funk 6'7" | PF Skyline Prep | 2024 State AZ is a Class of 2024 prospect who played at Canyon Ridge last year.
How long have you been playing basketball?
I have been playing basketball since 1st grade.
Who did you play AAU with this past season and tell us how it went?
I played with Utah Hard Knox this past AAU season. We competed against some good teams all Spring and Summer. We ended up making it to the Quarter Finals on the Grassroots XL Circuit.
Canyon Ridge H.S will need to replace some solid players that left, who do you think will step in and why?
We have a really strong sophomore and junior class, I’m sure several guys will step up.
What are your expectations for this coming year for you and your team?
I expect to play a much bigger role and to contend for the conference championship.
What is your training like right now?
I do strength training 4 times a week, and basketball daily with several weekend tournaments with Magic Valley Basketball Club.
What are some things you are working on?
I am currently working on getting a lot stronger and becoming a better leader.
Do you pattern your game after any players?
I pattern my game after LaMelo Ball and James harden
I’m sure you’re looking to play at the next level. Is there a dream school?
Playing for any Division 1 school is the dream.
If basketball wasn’t an option what sport would you be playing?
I would likely be playing golf or doing track.
How would you describe your game?
I have a good handle with a quick first step. I can make shots and I can finish well with either hand. I am a good passer, and play unselfish basketball.
Overview:
With a player like Carter it seems a though Canyon Ridge not only has a player that can score the ball but a player that can create for himself and others. Carter looks to improve his strength that will allow him to hold his own against more mature players in his region and in the state.
