It was admittedly a slow start for Hinton. He connected on a three-point shot in the first quarter, but only had five points at the half for Gary West Side. However, the explosive point guard went off for 20 points in the second half and led all scorers with 25 points and 6 rebounds in a 56-47 victory. Hinton is committed to play Division II basketball next season at Johnson C. Smith.

Uber athletic guard that was showing off the bounce from the start of the event. Explosive athlete with the ball in his hands. He was able to get downhill and finish in a variety of different ways with either hand. In transition he was turning defense into offense and threw down some impressive dunks show off his athleticism for a smaller guard. Once he saw the ball go through the bucket the rest of his offense game got going and there was no stopping him.

, 6’0” Guard out of Gary West Side, is one of the most athletic guards in the state. Elite in transition with the ball in his hands. Shifty guard that thrives on getting downhill and finishes as well as any smaller guard in the state. Holds an offer from Northern Illinois.

Extremely athletic quick twitched guard that has the ability to take over games. Offensively he showed supreme confidence in his three-point shot that at some points has been a work in progress for him, but he’s clearly worked at it and had it going for him today. The perimeter shot falling led to defenders trying to pressure him where he used his quickness to get in the lane where I thought he did a good job of staying under control and playing off two feet. Defensively he was able to create problems with his quickness and active hands.

Hinton had a very strong summer both during the month of June with Gary West Side High School and then in July on the EYBL Circuit with Indy Heat . He as explosive end-to-end as any guard in the state and plays bigger than his height due to that athleticism and strength. Look for him to have a big year for West Side who should compete among the best in the Class 3A North.

This was the second straight weekend that Hinton really stood out to us. College coaches have been taking notice as well. The explosive 5’10” guard has really shined as a playmaker with great open floor decision-making. He can get up to finish at the rim at the end of his drives and has had no issue taking it at opposing size. Hinton is absolutely a scholarship-level player and it will be interesting to see where his recruitment goes after back-to-back excellent showings during the June live periods.

Hinton is an interesting case heading into the first live evaluation period. The explosive 5’10” point guard from Gary West Side reported an offer from Northern Illinois back in January of 2024 and has taken visits to schools such as Western Michigan and Valparaiso. He also obviously plays at a very high level on the EYBL Circuit with Indy Heat . However, it is fair to say he isn’t as well known nationally or as highly ranked as some of his teammates. We at Prep Hoops Indiana don’t have many reservations about his size because his strength and explosiveness make up for it. Scholarship level programs, including low-major Division I schools, should make it a point of evaluating Hinton while in Memphis for EYBL Session II this weekend.
