3 star Wing Jalen Carruth Announces His Top 6 Schools

On August 23rd, 6'7 wing [player_tooltip player_id='598749' first='Jalen' last='Carruth'] will drop his top 6 schools. Throughout his high school career, he's honed his shooting and frame to garner several opportunities at the next level.   “It's not really a lock on my top 6 right now. I have some schools that I'm looking at but I haven't made my official top 6. I'm still trying to figure everything out. One step at a time. You Know?”   Carruth mentioned a few locks for his prospective list.   UCF: “I've been in contact with them for a while. I love the coaches, love the staff.”   San Jose State: “They've been on me pretty hard the past month or so.”   New Mexico State: “New Mexico state is also on that list. I've built relationships with coach (Heiar) and the assistants. We've built relationships with schools. He (coach Brian Merrit) was the assistant coach somewhere else. Then ended up taking the job at New Mexico State, which worked out perfectly for me.”   With UCF, San Jose State, and New Mexico State identified in the top 3, that leaves us with two more options. I asked Jalen to break down the remaining offers he's received over the years.   “I have offers from IUPUI, Kennesaw State, USF, Clemson, Xavier, Tulsa, Bethune Cookman, Howard University, High Point, Grambling State, Troy, Coppin State, NCAT, Eastern Carolina, and Louisiana Tech.”   That's 15 schools vying for three vacant spots on the 3-star recruits list. After mentioning the amount of HBCU options on his list, he gave more insight into his mindset.   “I've definitely been looking at a couple of HBCUs. I don't discriminate against any school. No school is too high, and no team is too low... I know FAMU's been in the picture a lot lately. Howard's always been in the picture. I'm still putting that list together. (I want) to make sure I'm making the right decision because it's an important decision. I'm making sure I'm putting everyone in there that's interested in me and can develop me as a player and a person.”   Carruth continued to drop hints about his remaining spots when talking about the play style he wants to play.   “I'm looking for an uptempo style of play. My game is really about getting out in transition, playing defense, getting stops, steals, deflections, getting rebounds, and pushing the ball whenever the opportunity presents itself, whether that's the three, whether that's getting to the basket and creating for others. Just a fast type of play. That's my type of play. Just run it and play hard.”   The 2023 wing will finish his senior season with the newly founded Kingsmen Basketball Academy in Gainesville. With next-level looks on the horizon, it's time for Carruth to develop his body.   “My body. I'm 180 pounds roughly, 182..183, so adding an extra 10 or 15 pounds. Even if I put on ten more pounds in high school and a couple more pounds in college, that's something I'm definitely looking forward to. That's something I am definitely looking forward to, just working on my body and getting in the weight room more, continuing to eat right, and taking care of my body. Making sure I'm well enough to play. I hardly get injured. I stretch a lot to prevent injury.”   Carruth mentioned that a part of his game he wants to improve outside his body is his playmaking. With his height, he's been stuck on the perimeter but would like to play more on the ball.   “Just creating for my teammates off the dribble. I've been considered more of a wing or 2 guard, but you know I've been at the point a lot at my size. Ya, just being able to play on the ball. Whether that's pushing the ball, setting up a play, whether that's getting everyone else involved.”
