About Gavin
Expert Analysis
William Lloyd III | Prep Hoops Scout
Gavin is getting better and better with his playmaking ability each time out. He is using his scoring gravitation to pull defenders out of position and create scoring opportunities. Gavin has always been strong in the pick-and-roll and finding the open player following defensive rotation. His shooting skill forces the defense to commit to closing out on him, so simple patience with the dribble causes defensive shifts that Gavin can read in a couple quick seconds. Gavin is also strong in transition, seeming to always hit the right man in stride for an easy basket.

Gavin impressed much of the scout team with his high-level play last season. He was the engine that made DCI run and he had a variety of impressive game. Gavin can put up 20 points and 5 assists any given game. He mixes his playmaking with his scoring very well, always seeking his teammates in the halfcourt. Gavin creates well for his team with the ball in his hands, and he can spot up on the perimeter. Big threat beyond the arc and in the pick-and-roll game. Big expectations for Gavin as he enters his senior year. Scouts should tune in this weekend to see the PG get to work.

-Pretty dynamic downhill driving guard that utilizes a pretty strong core/upper body to bully his way to his spots in the halfcourt. Moore’s pull-up in the paint is beautifully on-balance and allows him to get off smooth 1 or 2-hand jumpers in the key that usually find the bottom of the net. Love the way that he utilizes footwork around the basket to create space to draw fouls or score over the defense.

Smooth floor general competing out in DC. Gavin always impresses me with his control and ability to manufacture plays for himself and for his team. He can be a high assist-man some nights or be the go-to scorer on others. His feel for the game is fun to see as he operates the point. Gavin is more than willing to knock down the open trey and will attack hard off the closeout if you aren’t ready for the fake. Nice feel in pick-and-roll action, makes the early pass when necessary and doesn’t hold the ball too long. He can create a shot for himself or draw defenders in for a kickout pass to the shooter. Smart and efficient point guard with time to catch the eyes of more scouts.

tough fade away 3 with no dribbles, wrong foot floater with the right in transition, pretty athletic, good frame, strong driver, getting to the line, C2C drive and lay off the missed FT to cut it to 5, hit a pair of FTs then got a steal and lay through contact in OT

Moore is a solid and composed lead guard for DCI. Can shoot the ball with clip if you give him the space to pull the trigger. Defenders attempt but struggle to maintain physical and pressure due to his frame, control, and poise. He can shift through the levels defense and find the best spots on the floor to set up his teammates. Great vision and has a high IQ on the floor. Feels like he knows what to do at all times while he’s on the court, which is essential at the point guard role.
