The July live period has come and gone across the country and needless to say there were players that made an impression during that time. Whether guard, wing, or forward, Louisiana had some players that opened some eyes with their talent and play. So, we will take a look at players who stood out in July as we put a bow on both of the live periods.

[player_tooltip player_id='1127251' first='Decedric' last='Webb'] (LA Elite)

No player in Louisiana opened more eyes than Webb in July. His ability play multiple positions, coupled with his athleticism, was an abundant help to Louisiana Elite in the success they saw in July. Webb defends multiple positions and finishes at or above the rim like few others in the state. If he becomes a consistent outside threat to go with those other skills in his arsenal, Webb may end up being a top ten player.

[player_tooltip player_id='970132' first='Chilaydrien' last='Newton'] (TX Impact 4:13)

One of the best point guards in the state impressed coaches who came to watch games on the UAA circuit. Newton is a lefty who can knock down the three as easily as he gets to the rim. He can play either guard position and play it at a high level. Whatever the coach needed him to do during the live period, he got it done. Newton is definitely a player who can play on the Division I level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1159181' first='Trey'Dez' last='Green'] (LA Broncos '24)

Green may be a top football recruit but he also takes his game seriously on the hardwood. On the Prep Hoops Circuit, he was probably the most dominant big man playing on the 16U circuit. His rebounding on both the offensive and defensive boards is nothing short of incredible because he tracks everything well. Green can score off the bounce or with his back to the basket. He has high major offers in both football and basketball which makes him the most attractive prospect in Louisiana.

[player_tooltip player_id='1145438' first='Kohen' last='Rowbatham'] (FIFA Elite)

Rowbatham was one of the better guards that played during the July live period. He staked his claim as being the top guard in Louisiana with scoring performances that were unmatched by anyone on any circuit. Rowbatham has a masterful use of the dribble and used it to blow by defenders no matter the length or size. His finishing ability in transition was excellent and he shot it well from deep. The defense he played opened some eyes as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='1273398' first='Cardez' last='Norman'] (OWE-RW3)

Norman is not the most polished offensive player. What he does though is rebound, run the floor, and protect the rim at a high level. His athleticism was unmatched on the Prep Hoops Circuit as he dunked on practically everyone if he was close to the rim. Norman is quick off the floor with his first and second jump as well which makes it hard to keep him off the boards. He is a player who has a wealth of talent and a big upside.

[player_tooltip player_id='1218216' first='Jayce' last='Depron'] (LA Elite 16U)

Depron has a ceiling that is as high as the international space station. There is nothing on the hardwood that Jayce cannot do. He can score the rock from all three levels and defend on the perimeter as well as anyone I have seen this summer. He is as smooth as they come whether he is attacking the rim or handling the ball on the perimeter. He is a total offensive package who can defend.

Other Louisiana Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='970111' first='Jamaria' last='Clark'] (OWE-RW3) - One of the best shooters on any circuit; he is an underrated passer and is lightning quick to the rim

[player_tooltip player_id='970126' first='Omarion' last='Layssard'] (LA Elite/Cenla Dynasty) - Attacks the rim ferociously; he is a streaky shooter who can go for big numbers scoring; undersized athletic finisher in transition

[player_tooltip player_id='1479618' first='Javonte' last='Thomas'] (Cenla Storm '24) - forward who can dominate the paint; he is a shot blocker and rim runner who is impossible to stop within 6 feet of the rim; rebounds in traffic well

[player_tooltip player_id='1105551' first='Jyrin' last='Sowell'] (OWE-RW3 '24) - guard who has a high defensive acumen and will guard five positions; he is as tough as they come; can finish around the rim through contact

Jaylon Pazon (Southern United) - wing who can play lead guard; improved shooter who can get hot quickly; can rebound and push the ball; defends multiple positions

[player_tooltip player_id='1105540' first='Todd' last='Jones'] (LivOn Fleur-de-Lis) - one of the most improved big forwards in Louisiana; highly skilled scorer in the paint with an expanding mid-range game; runs the floor extremely well

Even with the live period ending, there will be other opportunities to see these players as elite camp invites will pepper the months of August and September. Colleges in Louisiana and the surrounding states will have many of these players on their short list of invitees.
